Was driving along the A27 at a solid 65MPH earlier this evening, and it was showing about 12MPG on the live readout until the engine had warmed up, then it was showing about 24~ :D

I think the live readout must be wrong though, otherwise I would have run out of petrol by now.

That's got nothing to do with a thirsty engine that is an underlying engine problem. The 3sgte engine in mine will do better than that and is over double the power of a 325i and is very uneconomical and runs very rich. I am lucky to get 250 miles to a 70 liter tank :eek:.
 
I suppose I was exaggerating a little bit. I was going up a very very slight incline when it was reading 24~ and it wasn't completely warmed up. On level ground it sits at around 30 and I've seen it sitting at over 30 when pootling along in 30/40 zones with minimal throttle input.

I haven't filled the car up more than once yet so haven't got an accurate figure, just what I can surmise from the gauges. I'm expecting the average to be around 20MPG, but I may yet find out that it is averaging 10MPG and half full actually means empty, or 30MPG using some sort of black magic.

There's nothing wrong with the engine, they are just rather thirsty. Have to remember it has 500 more CC's, 2 more cylinders, and is a design from the 70's. Not to mention that the car is as aerodynamic as a house brick, and I occasionally hold it in a gear for a little longer than I need to so I can listen to it! :D

The 3SGTE is ridiculously thirsty for what it is, was really shocked at how much my MR2 turbo used when I drove it down here.

It's a 2008 Mazda 6 2.5L SL saloon with 66k miles on it. Full main dealer service history and one owner.

Got a few jobs that need doing (tyres, alloys and brakes) but otherwise I couldn't be happier. A big improvement over my old Mondeo mk3.

That is exactly what Acme should be looking at for a daily. Looks great for a 10 year old car...really respectable. :)
 
I may one day get a sensible daily, but not yet. And when that day comes, it won't be a Mazda 6. (not that there is anything wrong with them at all)

I'm really pleased for the price and age. It's a revelation coming from an older car to one with full leather interior, electric heated seats, dual zone climate control, cruise control, front and rear sensors, xenons, auto lights & wipers, keyless entry and push button start. The Bose stereo system is nice too.

It's got a bit of go also. Parkers reckons 7.7s 0-60 for the saloon, even though the 2.5L only produces 167HP, 226Nm.

Quick interior pic. Still have the black vinyl door cards to fit, and I have a dark wood 'lux' gearknob and a replacement lower dash panel in the post. After that the headliner needs to come out, and a friend of mine is going to re-trim it for me. :)
