All games to flicker/shimmer? When moving.

so i tried my other pc with i5 and 750Ti. Seems like the flickering is still there but harder to see because the monitor i have on that pc is 1600x900 so everything looks bad compared to my 1080p 144hzm monitor. I guess I'm just expecting too much from games especially Black Desert, I guess my pc and monitor is too overpowered and just make it look bad? Is this a possibility?

Advice from evga for their cards but I suspect its no different if its a nividia card and you have another brand. Checking for frame rate drops when the issues occurs may help you identify if this is the problem.

Question / Issue

With a 144Hz display, I get flickering sometimes. How do I fix this?

Answer / Solution

"This can be caused by the monitor's higher pixel clock needing the card to run at a higher speed. If the card's GPU downclocks too far, or if your frame rate drops too far below the 144Hz refresh rate of the monitor.

In the Nvidia Control Panel under 3D Settings, change the Power Management setting to "Prefer maximum performance". You may also need to set "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration" to "Single display performance mode".

Enabling VSync can also help, as well as lowering the refresh rate if you are not getting close to 144 FPS."

From what I can see lowering the refresh rate from 144 mhz to 120 mhz seems to work for most.

Ugh. I've tried changing the settings in Nividia control panel. I never notice any difference whatsoever. I tried Vsync, I notice no difference again.

Have you watched youre framerates to see if they are dipping down when issue occur? It should indicate if this is the issue or not.

Matching youre frame rate to the refresh rate is key to resolving if this is the issue.

It doesn't matter. The problem is there all the time, sure Black Desert doesn't get a lot of FPS but whether I have 120 FPS or 40 the problem still looks the same in this game. As for H1Z1 I always get 100+ fps, the problem is equally as bad.
I've tried lowering my screen refresh rate before. it doesn't fix the problem, just makes my monitor look worse lol.

Only other thing I can suggest is you said you tried an H.D.M.I cable and monitor would not turn on. Did you change the setting on youre monitor too H.D.M.I or if you have more than one h.d.m.i plug they will be labeled H.D.M.I 1, 2 etc.?

I ended up fixing the HDMI cable problem. I had to have my DVI plugged in with the HDMI so I could adjust the settings on my monitor. The problem still persisted with a HDMI cable :c

Sad nobody knows what the problem is :c

Yes. Difficult, issues are varied and difficult to pin down. You are also at a distance and can't see whats going on. My worst example is my dads mouse issue. human error on an epic scale.

Me "can you right click it?"

Dad. "yes I am pressing the big blue button and its still doing nothing."

Me " I think the issue may be down to the fact you have mistaken youre wireless router for a mouse. The mouse is the small grey palm sized device. The router is the very large non-palm sized device with a foam non-slip base and a big blue button on the front"

Best to keep a sense of humour. Can drive you mad.

According to that it was intentional with what you see in the video you posted above? It also appears it cannot be disabled.

What I don't get is it is in a lot of videos but not all. Out of interest what driver are you on? Have you going back a month or so and installing an older driver from that time to if anything changes.

Edit: Others also reporting that lowering the settings to minimum removes the issue but does on the higher settings. I believe after reading a few other threads about the Black Desert game is that it is an effect in game that is not working properly and although should be linked to heat waves etc it is not doing so correctly.

I tired a lot of drivers. I went far back too and the problem still persisted. I'm just annoyed because I went around on twitch streams asking if anyone else had this flicker/shimmer problem and eveyrone always told me no, they don't notice it. So I assumed my pc is broken. So what I am seeing is normal? The game looks ******* awful if that's the case.

A bunch of stable drivers I tried.

Yes I would say that the issue you are seeing is normal in that it in an in game effect but it is not rendering properly in that it should only happen in the desert but people are getting it all over the place and this issue appears to be a good 12 months old without it being solved. Lots have asked for it to be disabled but appear to not have any solution to this point.

I would say the flickering from H1Z1 is purely that it has awful AA in it regardless of what you do.

Other games are not as bad or similar in that of what you are seeing in Black Desert because it's a mix of the AA, texture pop and drawer distance for each game. You seem to notice it more than others though.

I don't get the problem in BF1 or Overwatch. However, instead these 2 games seem blurry for me. I don't know why? I feel like I encounter so many problems with my PC lol.

I don't know your exact issues and it is hard to work through them all but I can say certainly for Black Desert and H1Z1 those are your issues I outlined above.

I have not seen BF1 be blurry in anything tbh apart from low settings.
