Man admits to rape of a 12 year old

I was interested in their thread but i cant navigate the site.

I think it would be hilarious to have a mumsnet thread of the week thread though. Just for some light-hearted banter to discuss how the other side think.

Whatever we may think is irrelevant. The law was broken, am sure we can all agree with that. As said in a older post, am sympathetic to his case, but he still needs to be punished since he is an adult and should take responsibility for his actions.

But why though? You've still not given any rational justification - other than repeating that he broke the law and so should be punished/take responsibility for it. Can you not see the circular logic there? Try thinking a bit harder and see if you can come up with an argument to support your position? I'd be interested in hearing it as I'm still not seeing one.

I think in the end, I don't think you should be trying to pick up girls at 4am in the morning from some taxi rack who are likely drunk out their heads on Vodka which also questions if these girls was of legal age, would they claim they was raped by this person?

I think this is your real issue, you don't like that people go out and get drunk and sleep with each other. You don't like that behaviour so you want this guy to be punished to set an example to people who's behaviour you don't approve of. Thank god you aren't a judge.

The charade seems to be sending out some weird messages and raising many questions. The main issue is that it's OK to **** children as long as they don't look like children???

So what does the law protect children having sex from? Is it physical damage or mental damage? What if this guy was a Brown Person from Rochdale, would everyone still be this sympathetic to the guy?

No, I think the real issue is that he raped a 12 year old, but whatever floats your boat dude.

I'm sorry, but she's 12 for gods sake.

It's not even like we are talking about a girl near the age of consent. She's a child.

OK, I'll bite.

What evidence do you have for this massive conspiracy you're claiming exists in this case between random strangers, police officers, a judge and various employees? Also, more generally, between biologists, doctors and most people since they say that there is a large variation in the rate of maturation and aging in humans (a thing you're claiming doesn't exist).

So he should have asked for photo ID then? But what if she had fake ID, would he then be responsible for not recognising that her ID was fake?

Where do you draw the line? If she reasonably appeared to be an adult, lies about her age and all the witnesses also claim she looked much older, what are Men supposed to do?

That's the conclusion you've come to from reading the information that has been made available to us? I've picked up girls in the taxi rank after nights out, not once did it cross my mind that they could potentially be a child masquerading as an adult, after midnight, in a place where only adults should be, when we're both in a state of intoxication.

At 19 I'd have quite happily taken what I believed to be a 16 year old home - and I'd have been pretty chuffed about it too.

Men are supposed to be gentlemen. This drinking and clubbing culture is BS.

So basically you're not judging the guy, you're wanting someone criminalised and made an example out of because you disagree with that type of behaviour. Pathetic really.

I dont want anyone criminalised what are you talking about?

All I said was this, I think you're assuming my beliefs, my main concern is fairness and equality:

"The charade seems to be sending out a message that it's OK to **** children as long as they don't look like children.

I'm just trying to understand the Law lol. :D

It's genuinely concerning that some people see the world as so black and white with no mitigation whatsoever. The guy had no reason to suspect she was underage. That has been confirmed by several witnesses and agreed by a judge who has more knowledge of the case than any of us do. There appear to be exceptional circumstances here but some people just can't see them or choose not to.

You're not though. The law is clear on what's allowed, there are thousands of men in prison who can attest to that. You're trying to crack down on behaviour you personally disagree with (for whatever reason that may be).
