I'm not trying to come over like an arm chair expert buddy. Sorry if it came across like that. I myself had only heard of them today when a Sky News journalist mentioned the name. It just seems BBC keep calling them a SWAT team which I find horribly lazy. I am ex Police too (just regular) so guess a bit of a pedant in these matters perhaps.

Horrible time to be a normal decent Muslim in the U.K, I really hope this recent event doesn't increase racist/religious hate crimes but I'm not holding out much hope

I have every sympathy for the family of the people that've died, absolute and unequivocal sympathy but for people not to understand why these types of attacks happen is beyond me, I don't go out of my way and kick a Rottweiler in the nuts and expect it not to savage my crown jewels off. There's only so much interference in other countries affairs and demonising of their religions that they'll take before you can expect a reaction and it's not exactly like you've had to learn this lesson for many decades.

Hence why we need to stay out of their affairs and keep them out of ours.

I don't think we're supposed to speculate on who the attacker is and it genuinely is a bit of a leap to assume he's an immigrant/from overseas and a further leap to assume he's from a country we've interviewed in he could just as easily be from the UK.

I think this needs posting as no doubt the usual suspects are making this into a normal Muslim/Islam thing when in reality it's a religious extremist thing which the majority of Muslims are as disgusted by as we are!!

I think it's fair to say that a large proportion of the population have assumed it's an Islamic-extremist attack and are now, for some obscure reason, surprised and shocked that it's happened.

you're talking about intervention in other countries, we don't know that the attacker is from a foreign country let alone one we've interviewed in

I think you misunderstand the nationalist mindset of the UK and the associated media. If he's brown skinned, bearded and a Muslim then it's Islam. British born or not makes no difference to knuckle draggers and British born or not makes no difference to Islamic extremists, they don't perpetuate terrorism in the UK because of how they're treated in the UK.

I'm not sure how that relates to my post. I was simply pointing out to you that we don't know if he is from the UK or abroad so talking about Western foreign policy is a bit speculative and something that, is clear from the mods and the thread title, that we're not supposed to do at the moment in this thread.

Sorry, I did update it after you posted as I missed a bit out, my point is that British foreign "policy" is exactly why we have home grown extremists.

Just seen that. Sorry, I'm not going to be able to carry on this discussion unfortunately, we need to get confirmation of the attacker first. I think a wider discussion of any ideology that may or may not be connected would currently break the rules. I will pick this up tomorrow if this changes after he is named

Everyone can discuss the callous, revolting and now thankfully dead attacker to their hearts content, however sweeping statements regarding a religion by association and/or race will still not be tolerated.

That's not remotely aimed at anyone in particular it's a statement for the thread to be aware of.

Not yet, apart from vague images of a bearded, brown skinned man, followed by speculation that it's Abu Izzadeen who somehow miraculously transported himself from a prison cell to carry out the attack.
