Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

My office is opposite the attackers flat (that got raided last night) in Birmingham so the place is swarming with Police and Press and of course people grabbing a quick selfie of the flat as they walk by.

My Gran was a young teenage in the Blitz, she used to say every day after the bombings was like nothing had happened. It's the London or British resolve, which won't ever be broken

I enjoy living in the countryside with zero chance of being caught up in anything like this. While I know the chances are minute, the thought of having to go to London next month and stand around in huge crowds of people for the marathon is off putting

I'd hazard a guess that the people caught up in this did not live in Zone 1 London in front of the Houses of Parliament. They were there for work / leisure / tourists etc. These are high profile locations. London is a big place. I'd say the chances of being caught up in such an incident if you live in say Chiswick or Putney or West Hampstead etc are just as low as if you live in the country side. These terrible individuals who carry out these attacks want maximum exposure which dictates the locations they choose so will only focus on certain areas.

You can't live in fear of these things to the extent it's dictating where you choose to go on an incredibly slim chance something terrorist related may hsppen. There's probably a higher chance of someone getting run over walking to the post office in your countryside location than it is for someone to get caught up in a terrorist attack in London.

After terror incidents like this i do wonder how easy it would be for a terrorist(s) to go to a small village in the sticks and cause utter chaos.

There are a LOT of firearms in the countryside with people that are very good at using them, as miscreants find out every year.
Bearded Asians also tend to be noticed and talked about. Would anyone know or care if Little Spidling disappeared, or its
inhabitants taken hostage? :)

That and your not going to find many people on the street out in the sticks, especially during the day.

But maybe they do attack villages? The locals could kill him feed the body to the pigs lol. No one would ever know they were there :D

I doubt we just wave them in if they failed security vetting.

Human rights are for everyone if we can just ignore them when we feel fit then they're pointless to have. How do you propose we "up the game tenfold"?

I cannot share your confidence in the slightest. when we wave in so called children that turn out to be in their twenties, find sypathisers and activists in our midst and they are still here years later at massive cost, and have hate preachers using the streets of the capital to peddle their views is it surprising I have little confidence in how many teeth our government have, or choose to use?

As to how to up the game, just ask Australia, or Mr. Trump. Then await the excuses why it's unfair, illegal, immoral... Like it or not, admit or deny it, we are in the midst of a holy war, a Jihad called by IS and its supporters. Until we treat it as a proper war we will be treated as the meek, apologist, ineffectual, consumerist, drink and drug riddled weaklings we have become.

Whilst that is true, I'm more likely to get caught up in a terrorist attach in London if I go to London than if I don't ;)

It would never stop be going, but I find it hard to believe anyone would be able to go without the thought entering their mind.

We can't all share the same view. GD would be rather pointless if we did :D.

IIRC those children that looked stupidly old were pretty obviously cherry picked by the DM. However IIRC in that thread I learnt it wasn't possible to accurately test someone's age without documentation so we can't prove they are children and we can't prove they're not (although the chosen images did look suspect its unlikely to be representative of all of them). I didn't realise any of them had been proven to be older than children or am I missing something? The hate preachers seem to be rather good at walking the legal line so there's little the police can do bar keep an eye on them. If anything hate preachers may be useful to see who they speak to for potential other targets.

Australia just blocks entry to people who fail security checks don't they(just like they do with anyone). Trump's ban is idiotic at best all it has done is cause problems for a lot of people who help their economy.

A proper war generally involves invading territory and pacifying the inhabitants doesn't it? Do we invade parts of the UK? How do we tell who is ISIS and who is a normal Muslim? How do you know the white English bloke isn't an ISIS supporter?

Maybe I'm being ignorant but when you don't know who you're enemies are it's rather hard to start an effective war.

Seems like some are just content to ignore the problem as the chances of them being killed or affected by terrorism are still quite small when looking at the statistics. Comparing to the blitz is disingenuous too as Britain was actively in the process of fighting a known enemy, what we see today is random terror with global visibility rather than a conventional war in a bygone era.

It's not ignoring the problem to get on with your lives as normal is it? I'm off to London tonight for a gig.

What do you want me to do exactly about a nutter getting in a car and mowing down innocent victims? Living in fear won't help me and It would mean they (terrorists) are doing what they set out to, i.e. cause terror.

they won't bother though, because the primary MO of a terrorist is to cause as much "terror" to as many people as possible. Ramming your motor into the front window of the village boozer is not going to have that effect. It will always be big cities / public spaces like airports / train stations or other iconic locations that will ensure a massive impact.

I'm perfectly content ignoring the problem. I have faith that our security and intelligence services are on the ball. I'm currently say in the EC2 post code doing my job and trawling this forum.

What do you suggest, this?
