Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

I will never understand why religion is expected to treated with so much respect. Race, gender, sexuality? Absolutely. Religion? All a load of tosh which causes more harm than good.

Too true, religion should be banned.

ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed that the attacker was one of their soldiers.

Called it, in other news water is wet.

This attacker is allegedly known to the police as a potential extremist, no barriers would be needed if he'd been interred, save the walls of some cell. But if you wanted barriers, how statistically would be an efficient way of checking people out? Right, so that's not going to happen, is it?

White English men of a certain age and background are far more likely to commit a sexual offence against a child. If we intern them all that wont happen.

Depends how you are talking about - people should be free to believe in whatever they want to whether it makes sense or not - what they shouldn't be allowed to do is inflict their beliefs on others.

Of course Isis claim it. It's a successful attack being talked about world round.
They would claim anything.

It's surprising that they don't pay a load of jihads to come to the UK on a business trip with hire cars and just go mental on pavement all across where ever.

Now who's the racist? The guy didn't mention colour, he stated that the man was allegedly already known due to some previous extremist behaviour or some such. He didn't say 'guy was known to be brown, should have been locked up'

PC brigade really are just ridiculous.

It is so depressing to realize that these attacks are going to be happening in western europe for the next few decades, probably centuries. Just innocent people getting massacred in the street.

Not just Western Europe.

Yeah i'm just going to get out and read my history books and read about when the world was a peaceful paradise.

The question I have is about this guy already being on the radar of MI5. I have read the book soldier spy all about how suspects are monitored and it's clear our intelligence service are doing incredibly good work. I believe around 50 plots have been foiled since 7/7.

However my question is over at what point we should intervene if we suspect someone is becoming radicalised. The 7/7 bombers were also under observation and we let them go on. It's a fine line between respecting human rights and being a police state. Difficult one but surely these cut off estates that harbour these people need to know they are going to watched more closely so long as they keep producing nutters..

Exactly this.. I remember when there weren't bins in public places because of the IRA... the only difference here is that there's never a warning. I'd wager the IRA were far more deadly on UK soil than anything in recent times.

Not just Western Europe.

I didn't claim it was just western europe. But for example my own country has yet to have a religion driven attack like this. And I hope it never does. My point is that these kind of attacks have not been common in western europe as they are now. They are becoming completely routine, and that is depressing to me.

Yet another strawman. Never claimed world has ever been a peaceful paradise. But fact remains, these attacks have become way more common in Europe than ever before.

You've also got to bear in mind for an interception to be of any use you do still have to catch someone doing something so they have an impossible job, and of course you never hear about the ones they stop.

Inaccurate assessment of what constitutes racism and political correctness aside, how do you interpret the bit I've highlighted then?:-

This attacker is allegedly known to the police as a potential extremist, no barriers would be needed if he'd been interred, save the walls of some cell. But if you wanted barriers, how statistically would be an efficient way of checking people out? Right, so that's not going to happen, is it?
