Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

Several possibly even worse attacks have been disrupted, etc. over the last few years by the security services - this one happened to get through.
Aye likely the reason they've turned to these tactics are our security services have been so effective.

I will never understand why religion is expected to treated with so much respect. Race, gender, sexuality? Absolutely. Religion? All a load of tosh which causes more harm than good.

Likely because if people were allowed to discriminate against religious but not on those other grounds, it would still be fairly easy to discriminate against nationality or race but just under the guise of religion or protection from religious extremism *cough* Trump *cough*

This was the first stack of its kind, for as long as i can remember. The system works
I agree with your sentiment, and in terms of that part of the attack that comprised terrorist use of vehicle as weapon in UK, I believe you're right, but don't forget the similarly lone-wolf, similarly right-wing extremist attack on, and murder of Jo Cox MP last summer.

A very moving and emotion laden request by the charming MP James Cleverley for a posthumous honour for the murdered PC. He's always been on my radar as a fine MP and has gone up another notch. Nice guy...

Now who's the racist? The guy didn't mention colour, he stated that the man was allegedly already known due to some previous extremist behaviour or some such. He didn't say 'guy was known to be brown, should have been locked up'

PC brigade really are just ridiculous.

He didnt mention colour, but i did which is fine. I was picking on a group who can be easily identified and targeted and have a high risk of perhaps carrying out an offence. If its valid to intern one group based on something they may or may not do, why not the other?

Firstly,
RIP to the victims and I hope the survivors aren't scarred for life.

Why aren't all vehicles in this day and age not fitted with a device that as soon as a collision with ANYTHING has occurred then the engine automatically cuts out?

Armed police wouldn't have saved her though.

In the seventies and possibly early eighties many cars had an inertia switch that killed the fuel pump in a collision. I was quite proud to be able to hooligan Triumph Stags sufficiently (without hitting anything...) to the point the inertia switch cut in :) That's assuming the crates actually ran WITH the switch operating the fuel pump, and the head gaskets hadn't gone of course.

There's no technology that can accurately discern the difference between an impact with a person, a particularly nasty bump in the road or a piece of debris. Cutting power on a false-postive detection of an impact could have serious consequences, particularly on high-speed busy roads.

What's more compelling is the use of automatic braking devices (using RADAR) but those are relatively new and most vehicles on the road don't yet have brake-by-wire technology. Even if all new cars did have this it would still be easy for an attacker to obtain a car that doesn't have it.

Anyone with bad intent would bypass it and the switch not being real life context aware there is the problem with false positives and could make a situation worse not better for instance if you have to drive a damaged car to the nearest hospital in a hurry after a collision, etc. because its a remote area or something and waiting for an ambulance would take too long.

More details of thankfully foiled copy cat drive into crowds attack in Antwerp appearing:
