Yes Sony turned it around and managed to eventually match 360 sales. However, XB1 is so far behind PS4 I can't see them catching up in any meaningful way. Happy to be proved wrong.

My XBox One gets played more than any other system (Overwatch and Halo) as all my friends play on it, but that doesn't stop me from making objective observations.

If its more than £500 I'd rather upgrade my PC to Ryzen tbh.
When I watched the Digital Foundry revel last night I was disappointed at first that it wasn't using Zen as it's base CPU design but soon after watching the video reality sunk in. Zen is designed and built around 14nmm and a 8 core chip weighs in at a steady 192mm squared where as this new Jaguar is most likely using a custom version of Exactuator which was built around 32/28nm gets die savings. On top of this the SoC has to accommodate a beefed up version of a RX480 which by itself is not small as well as all the other controllers required to run a console so your not going to get a Vega x Zen SoC that's small enough to be affordable (also bear in mind this is being build on 16nm at TSMC not 14nm at GF).
I wouldn't worry about it though sure Zen is way better then Jaguar in terms of IPC but we have seen what the Bulldozer architecture can do when all cores are loaded in games like AoTS, Bulldozer might have flopped on the PC but it has home on Consoles. Also with all the hardware being built around DX12 and 8 cores this can only be good for AMD users on the PC space.
I have to say as a PC user though the Forza demo made me very jealous of upcoming Scorpio owners - 4K 60FPS with a ton of room to spare?? In the PC space you have to fork out the thick end of a £1,000 to get that kind of performance and even the it can be a struggle. And all this from a modified RX480 and Bulldozer CPU, who would have thought it?!!!!????!!!??

Hoping that this will be about £450. Not sure if I will upgrade, but certainly looks good and it's great that the XBox team have delivered what they said they would.

I just looked at the table it just said "2.3ghz custom CPU" 30 fps here we come again then.
It's not a lot more powerful than PS4 Pro then really, more memory and probably better at 4K but the specs aren't really revolutionary.
Back then the Dreamcast had no EA, no Squaresoft/enix, which is a dame shame. Sony had all of the 3rd party support off the back of the PS1 till the MS stepped in.
X1 isn't as far back as people make it out to be. It's only recently Sony has been getting good press because of the exclusives over the past 3 months. Apart from Uncharted 4, nothing has much been going on the platform apart from HD remakes of PS2 and 3 exclusives since 2013.

Basically it will do properly what the PS4 pro claims to do / be a 4K machine at similar / slightly improved fidelity than we get right now.
I personally would prefer some devs to ditch 4K and go all balls to the wall graphics / Ai / draw distance etc at the 1080p
Does it need to catch up? What happens then?

Yea for the first couple of years it was sparse, bloodborn being the exception. But as of late it has been brilliant with a steady stream of highly rated exclusive games with plenty more coming.
Not really, but it sure would help - game devs would be more likely to offer exclusive titles without a hardware base that is almost 50% of their main competitors.

Do developers offer exclusive titles? More likely Sony/MS/Nintendo will offer to fund/buy exclusives or buy out the companies who make them. Dollar bills yo.
Horizon Zero Dawn....XBox owners really are missing out that one. Uncharted 4, TLOU2 on the way. XBox *desperately* needs some AAA new IP. Gears, Halo, Forza....all good games but not the kind of quality you'd buy a system for. It's a shame they let the Titanfall IP slip (not for PS owners obviously).
Not fanboying here, I was all xbox until this generation. I've been holding off on my 4k upgrade to see what is offer later this year. Scorpio hardware looks great and all, but if I'm making a choice...am I prepared to give up Horizon and TLOU2 4k goodness for Halo? Just a big nope right now.
In terms of performance and titles the X1 generation has been a disappointment so far. But damn! The new machine is a monster! After watching the DF videos i'll be keeping an eye on the cross platform titles and will probably sell the couple i have and rebuy them for the X1.
I don't see Sony resting on their laurels thou, this machine needs to be answered by the Sony side within the next 12 months. It might speed up the release of the PSV

I didn't get on with Horizon Zero Dawn personally, felt too much of a rip off of Far Cry Primal and the combat wasn't to my taste. Looked spectacular though! Appreciate i'm very much in the minority on that one, plus Zelda was craving my attention on the Switch.
TLOU remastered, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne though are the highlights of the PS4 exclusives thus far.
I love my Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. I get to play everything that I want to. That's all I really care about.

I love both consoles but could only afford one this time around, I went with the xbox one purely because my friends had one.
