Road Cycling

I don't know if it is simply the temperature rise to ~16C+ now in mid afternoon, or the high tree pollen count, or something else (like I don't take water with me, I have to really push myself to beat my own segment times, overtraining etc.). But I'm really struggling to do anything like 60 minute rides recently, popped to Halfords this afternoon (~5.5 miles round trip) and I was goosed/boiling! Was only wearing a merino mid layer and gillet up top.

I know from experience at work that I suit ~10C quite well to go at a pace and have the low ambient temp take the edge off, once it gets to ~18C I start to suffer.

Do I simply need to sort myself out with fluid now its getting warmer?

Maybe I need to change strategy and try riding at ~0630 (sunrise) on my days off work, on work days keep things simple (direct) or simply take it easy, instead of spending over half the ride in heart zones 4/5 (typical average for ride is ~152, max ~177, I'm 43 years old)?
 
More fluids, but much of it can be conditioning. I also suffer this time of year, just have to keep extra hydrated! Our bodies take a while to adapt to the different stresses when seasons change.

Even minor dehydration will massively impact your performance.

Carry water with you, not doing so is more of an oversight that not going out with 1-200 calories of emergency food tbh.
 
The weather tomorrow is looking awesome; sunny, 10-19C and low wind. All of awesome weather dreams throughout winter are finally coming true :D
 
Stuff it - bad back or no bad back I'm getting out on the bike tomorrow morning. I did a commute today and felt reasonable, will just take it steady.
 
Pro weather indeed. I'm just off for a few hills and then some flat country roads. Will be a little shy of 100 miles. My longest ride since I broke my collarbone :o

Stiff as a board this morning after a sharp ramp up in miles this week. I'm heading down to bespoked Bristol for a look at the bling instead of a ride
 
Just had my place for tomorrows RR confirmed :cool: originally 7th or 8th reserve.

TSS/ramp rate a little on the high side lately so planned to do something recuperative on the turbo, sods law the KickR arrived today and it's glorious outside so spec'd something flat to keep dat der power down.

I only did 20 miles and took it very steady. Back ached a bit but out of 10 on the pain scale I didnt feel anything more than a 3 or a 4. Came back got straight into hot bath, will rest now.

Physio chap has emailed me a load of videos of rehab exercises to get on with for a week or so.

The Sportful WS soft shell feels ever so nice (feels better than my Altura soft shell)
but it came up smaller than i thought it would, all my cycling stuff are in large (normal T-shirts are Medium) and i recon i could use a next size up, otherwise im not going to get much underneath it ! lol
