Xbox Scorpio

I tend to agree, we have console makers that are pushing out alternative options for those who are willing to pay for the best possible image quality (console limiting obviously), i'm happy with the offerings this gen.

Glad to see it has a monster spec! If games make use of the power (particularly 3rd party, as that's what I tend to play most of) then I'll buy it.

Can't see it being over £400 to 450 considering how much a one S is currently (circa £200).

This is still very much on my radar as a possible purchase. Going to wait till we know more.

Im looking at it as a definite option for an upgrade path when I come to replace my PS4 and upgrade to a 4k TV.

I have to say as a PC user though the Forza demo made me very jealous of upcoming Scorpio owners - 4K 60FPS with a ton of room to spare?? In the PC space you have to fork out the thick end of a £1,000 to get that kind of performance and even the it can be a struggle. And all this from a modified RX480 and Bulldozer CPU, who would have thought it?!!!!????!!!??

Looks like consoles playing to console's strengths, which honestly they haven't been doing recently as PS4/XB1 have been trying so hard to be too much like PC. A good thing indeed... speaking of PCs...

Yes, I'm shocked at how cheap an Xbox One S is. So cheap I'm almost tempted to buy one, but then I realise it's pointless since I'd never use it lol (my current consoles usually collect dust, only using the WiiU a lot recently due to Zelda). I've still got Uncharted 4 in the wrapper... but mainly because I've just not got around to it yet. Even so, I'd peg the Scorpio at being £500. Which isn't too shabby considering that to get a similar experience on PC (i.e. proper 4k), it costs £700. And that's just the GPU bit alone... (a couple years back the parts my PC minus the GPU cost roughly that much lol).

Again, I'd be tempted to buy one of these, especially as we've now got a 4k TV downstairs... but again, I'd find that I'd rarely use it (I prefer being in my bedroom with my lovely 1440p monitor) as there still isn't too much in the way of 4k content around. Even 4k Blu-rays, early days and they're still a rare thing. Once 4k becomes mainstream, Scorpio may become more popular for folks to pair with their 4k TVs.

Imagine by some miracle they drop this at £349 and shut everyone down... I can dream right? (Ps still expecting £399).

I'm in much the same position after the reveal. I was on the fence and I still am. I had an Xbox One and sold it recently after I swapped my PS4 for a Pro, mainly due to the lack of exclusive titles. I tend to play cross-platform games on PC so the Xbox One was getting very little use. My main issue is down to how they back up this reveal with some good single player games like the PS4 has. The Xbox One has no answer to games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, Nioh, Nier Automata, The Last Of Us as far as I can see. It does have the Forza franchise which I love, but I wouldn't buy a console just for some good racing games. My other issue is that a lot of the exclusives Microsoft does have not only come to PC, but are very multiplayer focused. That just doesn't interest me at all.

That said, I'm keeping an open mind and I'll be watching for some good reveals closer to launch as from what Phil Spencer says, it does sound like exclusive games will be forthcoming. I just hope that there's something innovative in there that makes me want to pick one of these up because on the hardware front they've got the making of something very good here.

I tend to cover all bases when gaming and usually own each console as well as my PC... except the Switch which to me has no appeal whatsoever. Not having a go Switch owners, Nintendo just isn't for me.

You aren't wrong mate. As an owner of PC and PS4 Pro that covers most bases. With cross play there isn't a whole lot I can't play.

I have do have an Xbox for multiplayer as that's where my mates play (and controller is better) but I'm in two minds about Scorpio. Still end up with it I reckon but can't help thinking a Switch is a better buy,

In fairness it was innovative...name another console game like it ?

Regardless of what people thought of it, it was something new, fresh and well...innovative.

Astroneer is fairly similar in the concept, but perhaps it's a bit of a rip off. I don't think either game is particularly good.

Yea, you are purposely massively over simplifying it.

Perhaps, i believe the die is a similar size (360mm v 363mm) and that's where one of the big costs lie. The bigger the die, the lower the yields making the chips more expensive but given they are a similar in size should cost them the same i imagine.

Although it does include a 4K Bluray player, vapour chamber cooling, a bigger power supply will have to feed it all which does all add up, but i still think it will come in at £399 given the PS4 Pro is £320 right now.

The Pro is not £320, it might be at one outlet but it's not the norm.

Like me saying the R7 1700 is £286 as it can be had at that price.
