Hi all

Been looking into the Seocnd hand side of things,

What GPU would you all choose I you went for a used one, Price id be paying used is around £250

Reason I ask is because I'm not sure if a older 980 will be better than a newer 480RX or 1060

Thanks

You can get a 980Ti used. I've bought a few GPUs used, and that's definitely the route I'd go next time, as they drop in value so significantly. I paid 300 for my 970 new, and it's worth around 130 now, if I'm lucky.

Yes! Definitely. Used is actually the better option, if there is a deal to be had. Just make sure you can send it back if it's faulty, PayPal usually covers.

Due to the age of last gen cards, they often still have a warranty, and if you buy it from a respectable member, they'll often help with warranties.

No, owners expect too much for their used GPU's IMO and I'd rather just buy one new then spend x amount of time trying to get one for a fair price. Some don't even consider the age either thinking their 1.5 year old heavily used GPU is the same as one bought 1 month ago :D
Forget the "I'll help with the warranty" promises, that's worth very little IMO. In a year's time I suspect some will offer no help at all for example
When you buy a used card you also have no idea if the warranty will be still valid should you need to claim, it depends on the manufacturer. So this needs to be priced in, as does the possiblility of being ripped off.
It might be different at the lower end but at mid to top end just buy new.
IMO a nearly new say 3 month old used GPU should be 30% lower than the current brand new price. Adjust newer/older cards accordingly but no higher than 20% lower for any used card.

Thanks for all the replies, a lot of interesting things pointed out, I was thinking of maybe going the route to SLI the GPU in my next build, A lot of 970's are on sites for a decent price,

What's the reason for so many being sold, Is it the age of them or performance?

Thanks

Depends on the member. Anyone buying from me can always rely on my word. I never do things to others I would not like being done to me when it comes to stuff like this. I got my 1080 from Gregster recently and I am confident if I needed help with warranty he would help me. The chances of graphics cards breaking are slim anyways.

The games I'm looking at playing are not very demanding only Racing and Euro truck sim 2, what's best for that in reasonable pricing

I have bought 2 2nd hand GPU's, both to accompany exsisting GPU's for crossfire setups, (6950 and then later a r9 290) never had any issue and I would recommend it.

Looking at eBay, a 980ti is incredible value and could be had for £220ish

I may look at getting on the bay and getting a 980ti and may add a 2nd card at a later date

Onlyever bought one 2nd hand GPU - a B-Grade 290 from OCUK. I bought it as a stop-gap, but nearly 2 years later I've still got it. It's been flawless, and would be happy going second hand again.
