Official RX580,RX570,RX560 and RX550 series review thread

It is an underdog thing. Everyone likes an underdog and hence the support for AMD but it can get tedious when you question anything AMD do and you get put in the stocks prior to your public hanging.
Come on Gregster stop victimizing yourself and the green fanbase. It looks poor. You are better than that no? :). Both sides have people out for blood but they always forget that their own are doing the very same thing. Its funny how that works.

The real issue with many of the post here are people are just stating opinions without facts to back them up and when challenged they throw the usual "you must be a fanboy" comment as it somehow invalidates the challenge. Red and green loyalists do this all the time. Its the tech worlds "racist card" all over and it is getting tiresome..

Nvidia haven't done a single rebrand since I've been building PCs. I think a lot of AMD defenders do so out of pure nostalgia. That's why they come across as irrational buffoons. They can't accept the present reality which is that Nvidia make huge performance gains year on year.

When Nvidia typically rebrands, most recently they drop down a tier so an x80 will become a y70 kind of deal, or its the same chip but more cores are unlocked.

You must not have been building PC's for to long then as Nvidia were famous for re-branding the 8800 g92 chip. The last re-brand i can remember was the gtx680-770. I don't remember them doing to many if any re-brands of cards we would speak about here since then. AMD have certainly been more guilty of doing this since GCN arrived.

Well you are no better than the reason I made the comment and proven by the "Come on Gregster, stop victimizing yourself and the green fanbase." Believe it or not, I don't have an allegiance to NVidia or AMD and really want to see AMD back in the black and going toe to toe with NVidia like they had done previous. NVidia are allowed to charge fortunes for top end GPUs and this saddens me. No matter how it is buttered up, the Titan series is expensive, the 1080Ti is expensive and the 1080 is expensive. NVidia make a killing on their cards and according to that guy from Adored.TV, the 1060 outsells the 480 by 5:1 according to his data (he used steam survey for the record) and I do actually scratch my head on why that is. I would buy the 480 over the 1060, as would most informed people I guess but clearly AMD are crap at marketing and NVidia are excellent.

So, what can AMD do to improve marketing? Personally, I am a Stevedore and just load/unload ships and seriously have no idea (I am a grunt who loves PC hardware basically), I work hard and earn fairly decent money, so I can afford to buy the top end GPUs, so what should I be looking to buy from AMD? And this is where I dislike AMD and have a moan at them from time to time but a fanboy I am certainly not and when people start putting "Both sides have people out for blood", I cringe, as that is the kind of talk that happens in the playground of primary schools. There shouldn't be a side amongst us enthusiasts and we should buy what suits our needs.

And indeed it is the tech worlds "racist card", that you just used against me lol.

AMD marketing makes there fanboys aggressive and its something like every PC gamer owes AMD according to there marketing.

:D

Apparently Gibbo said they sold 300 already. LOL.

Not that surprising really. Yeah AMD can only compete with the 1060, but considering the RX580 is currently the fastest GPU that supports Freesync, which itself is £200 cheaper than a gysnc monitor, you can see they are hitting the cost effective group hands on.

Personally I do not have a problem dropping £500 on a GPU, but then getting a £200 tax on the Nvidia monitor has meant I haven't pulled that trigger.

480 has been massively popular , more popular for system builders and resellers that supply to your average joe, I know OCUK do the whole range but all forum users are more clued up. Hence why vendors have stepped up their game, not all because of heat/power but actually they sold TON load!

xfire actually makes more sense with with AMD as mentioned above, no real high end. there cheap and slap to of them in a 144hz free-sync screen and it still could have been cheaper then when 1080 first launched , lol

I dont like what they've done as a gamer/hardware fan but for business, ****ing smart!!!!! and I hope this again gains more marketshare, more they get can effect Vega in reality . they aren't taking as much profit per chip then Nvidia is, they might change that with Vega, but if 400/500 has got them massive markshare, they may wise to continue this can gain more with taking less profit on vega chips.

personally i'll think they'll do this, next gen might be a different story, have the share so can target upgraders.

Yeah the Nvidia rebranded 8800 is probably the most famous IIRC it was rebranded twice ! In 2nd place is the GPU's that are not only "rebrands" but allow you to update the BIOS of the original card to become the "rebrand" and unlock a core or whatver the 580's nearly come into this category. Arguably there isnt much benefit over potential overclocking when you flash the 580 BIOS on a 480 but when it works you wonder why did AMD bother ?

Also lay off Gregster if anyone has read a few of his posts knows he has the buying power to get the top end GPU no matter whether its AMD or Nvidia. Fanboy is a term bandied about in the same vein as noobs. People who do this I call muppets - thats my term you saw it here first.

Anyway what do people really think of the 5xx series line..... ;)

I personally think AMD has put a lot of its resources into Ryzen,so targeted the mass market since it has higher sales, and more importantly the PS4 PRO and XBox Scorpio share features with Polaris - even the PS4 PRO has the same number of CUs,so AMD could actually maximise their return on the R and D.

They will have to have Vega out sometime this year,as they are releasing the Ryzen APUs which ideally would use the same design, and from the bumpf we have heard about Vega,it improves CU utilisation efficiency, improves VRAM usage efficiency and power consumption which will be useful for an APU.

Arguably there isnt much benefit over potential overclocking but when it works you wonder why did AMD bother ?

Easy one - they just launched Ryzen and instead of "old" cards,AMD launches "new" cards so those R5 Ryzen rigs can be bundled with a "500" series graphics card.

We finally got a mini-ITX form factor RX570??

@CAT-THE-FIFTH , AMD def caught everyone out, mobo supply is part their fault with poor engineering samples sent out and then part vendors for not having enough faith. And then with 480 of vendors doing lack luster cooling as well as AMD poor first BIOS, the card sold massively haha.

least AMD is learning from lessons and Vendors now have faith in them.

Remember its AMD,so baby steps when it comes to some issue during a launch, but they are slowly getting better!! :p

most likely reason why Vega is slow. Honestly months ago it was Vega meant to be out this month with the email I got, seems it got switched around with 500. Hopefully it'll be worth it

Prop same thing Nvidia got wind of when getting Ti to launch, either just get their first or be in the same month

Well it will be the biggest 14NM chip Samsung/GF will have made for mass production and HBM2 costs and yields need to be viable anyway. I just hope they don't launch with another problematic cooler.
