*** Nintendo Switch ***

Folks,

I haven't been following the Switch release too much but from what I've read there has been some issues?

Have all of these been resolved now? Or is it better to wait a bit longer before purchasing?

Thanks :)

Dodgy left controller. Picked up switch neon yesterday from tesco click and collect.

Dock and screen perfect.

Left controller appears to have the defect.

Easy to open up and put foam in?

My launch Neon has a naff left Joy-Con. I've been soldiering on but it's finally got too much. Just emailed Nintendo support requesting a repair and have picked up a Pro controller so I can play it whilst docked in the mean time.

Right, spot of help please.

These both arrived today:

I was hoping to be able to use these with the dock instead of the plug that came with it. Reasons are long and complicated.

Problem is, with the Switch in the dock it throws an error saying you have to use the official plug. Is that right or is there a way around it?

To answer my own question, it appears that there is enough juice to charge but not play in the dock. Does anyone have this kind of config working and using which plug?

So basically there are still ongoing issues? I would rather wait until they are ironed out if this is the case!

Really looking forward to Mario Kart though!

I've not had any problems yet, and I bought mine a couple of days ago. I've not gone looking for them though, so who knows.

Thanks, I'm soooo tempted :)

A lot of people seem to be going for the neon colour at the moment, is the grey hard to get hold of or something?
Grey stock is low.

But I was never tempted by grey. Love the neon colours. I put them out the way so they don't look garish on the TV center though.

If you were affected you'd know, you wouldn't have to 'go looking' for the problem. Congrats!

How do you know if your joy con is faulty ? Does it keep disconnecting ?

At the most extreme the left Joy-Con will entirely lose connection, yes. It usually manifests by the signal dropping periodically leading to your inputs not being transmitted or the signal from the analog stick being frozen in the last position it transmitted. In games this can be your racer stuck turning long after you release the analog stick or your character continually running in a direction you are no longer pressing.

My left Joy-Con is so bad that I can sit on top of the docked Switch and it still happens and obviously this isn't an ideal way to play in 'TV mode'. Enough about the problems though, they're well documented and accepted as a common fault by Nintendo.

The Pro controller I picked up today is an excellent piece of kit, I'm well impressed. It might just be the best controller of all the current gen machines IMO and no signal issues, joy!

Sit around 3 meters from the switch and go to the analog stick test screen.

Spin the stick slowly and put your other hand in front of the joy con. If the pointer stops spinning smoothly you have a problem.

Annoyingly this is difficult to detect when playing games except for the occasional though of "I'm sure I pressed jump at the right time" when you die in shovel knight.

I have a dodgy left grey joy con and a dodgy right neon one.

The Elite controller is leagues better than the Switch Pro, but it is very nice indeed.

Not true. I only noticed a problem with my neon controller when playing 2 player snipperclips. Had I never played that game, which requires two hands wrapped around one joy con and long periods of holding down a direction, I could have only noticed the issue after it was too late to spot it.

It's well worth testing for a known manufacturing flaw when you are within your warranty period, rather than it ruining a multiplayer session with your friends later.

I picked up Puyo Puyo Tetris, really impressed, lot of modes to keep you busy.

I'm okay at Tetris but find Puyo Puyo quite tough, much harder to plan ahead for the chains which are an absolute must.

3 or 4 player even with the CPU is manic, looking forward to some local multiplayer.
