**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Decided to take my S8+ back tomorrow as my 2 weeks return runs out on Thursday. Although they did say it would technically be 30 days as its considered a fault. Basically the red tint on half of the screen just annoyed me too much. Especially as I web browse a lot and it was always there. No software is going to fix a half red and half white screen so its going back. Great phone though... I loved it apart from that issue. Ill probably just wait until the Note 8 now as I miss the S pen and my note 4 will hold out until then.
No issues with mine but as an ex note 7 user if the note 8 is like the plus but with an s pen, I'll be selling this and getting the note 8 for sure

The snake oil thing is more all the Amazon reviews complaining of scratches anyway.
Yeah I saw them. At gadget show when I asked to test it he gave me his phone and a bunch of keys. At the end there was some marks but my thinking is that:

A... You're never going to try to intentionally scratch your screen with keys, so a pointless extreme test

B... Countless people before me probably asked to do the same thing... Making scratches more likely/there before I even started

Current gorilla glass is pretty resistant to keys. But I still never put my keys in the same pocket as my phone. I still get scratches, which I put down to some kind of grit.

I'm on the side of snake oil when it comes to these protectors.

I received my S8+ on Friday 28th and used the EE online service to transfer my existing number over from O2 to EE. The number still hasn't transferred, how long should this usually take?

24-48 hrs I'd say but it would be only during working days so I'd say to give them a buzz if it's not done by lunch time tomorrow or Thursday morning

What's the thinking S8 or S8 Plus?

Other than size, are there any different tech specs?

Definitely go with the S8+. It doesn't feel any bigger than my iPhone 7 Plus or my Pixel XL thanks to the almost zero bezel.
Just a bigger battery for the S8+. 3500mah vs 3000mah. That's the only difference afaik.

Only the battery which needs to be bigger for the extra screen size.

I felt there wasn't enough of a difference to justify an extra 90 quid.

I see people coming from pixels, s7 edges and iPhone 7's

Why on earth would you do that? Seems like burning money to me.

I was trying Apple for the second time (iPhone 7), even invested in an Apple watch but you know what, I just didn't enjoy using it. Plus the battery life on the 7 just wasn't anything great.

Most of my accounts are around Google services also so that in itself is an influencing factor.

Overall though when I seen the S8 (as I wasn't sure I would bother) and what it offered I was sold on it. It's that bit different with the screen size and the dimensions of the device really work for me in a one handed sense. Having the latest and greatest is always a great selling point too.

Also considering iPhones tend to hold their value fairly well the change after 8months wasn't as expensive as I expected it might have been otherwise.

I guess it makes some sense in your case then. I remember going back to Apple when they launched the iPhone 5 and I just hated it. Missed my previous phone, galaxy nexus. So I sold it and got an S4 which I loved. Stayed with the Samsung phones from there on, going to the s6 then the s8.

One thing going for iPhones is they do hold their value.

Well, I'd question the sanity of people who would buy any of those phones in the first place ;). I wouldn't want an iPhone even if you paid me to use one and have it for free. S7 edge is ugly with impractical edge and pixel is a very expensive iPhone 1 and looks like a soap bar.
My note 4 upgrade was up last year when all of these were released and neither of them felt like an upgrade worth having. I'm not surprised others want to get rid of these as soon as possible hah. I hope the person which designed pixel got fired.

Is anyone using always on display? It seems to turn off while in my pocket or facing down on a surface, soon as i pick it up it switches back on. But when i leave my phone facing upwards on a surface, it stays on? I wish it would turn off until i pick the phone up again.

Sounds like you want an always on display that isn't always on.

Not sure how that would work.

I reckon the screen is as close to revolutionary on a phone as we've had in a long while. It's a 6.2 inch screen that I'm finding much easier to manage with one hand than the 5.5" screen of my old iphone 6s+ and for me that's absolutely great.
I don't think there's going to be a competitor (screen wise) to the S8+ for some time, and that'll be the Note 8. After that, who knows how long it'll be until a competitor catches up? It certainly doesn't sound like Apple are going to have anything bigger than 5.8" this year.

Under the hood, yes it'll get superseded by half a dozen handsets in the next 12 months.

That's what my sons Moto X does. It sits there nice and dark until you move your hand near it or pick it up :)
