The Telegraph are ******* themselves and will print or say anything to undermine Tory incompetence.

I'm sure you'll find by 2019, the opinion of the general public will go in the opposite direction (once people are able to admit to themselves they've been taken for mugs by the Tories and/or UKIP)

Why would the telegraph be ******* themselves ahead of a tory landslide election?

Even the most blinkered remainer is going to struggle to cheerlead the EU with its ridiculous demands for money and absolute impotence in agreeing any sort of deal. The childish and petty leaks and spin will just increase the publics resolve to escape Germany and the EU's clutches.

The facade of unity will soon drop away when they realise juncker only cares about keeping his day job and not the cost to each of the 27.

Take the privatisation of the NHS as one of many side effect of the Cons in power... surely that will worsen your back pocket and/or heighten the health risk for you and your family.

Proportionally, more privatisation occurred under Labour though, so that argument doesn't really stack up, does it?

The right to die speaks volumes to the depth of Swiss understanding and communication. As you say public health, wellbeing and care is up there with top priority. People are given dignity, compassion, support and much more freedom in comparison to the 'like it or lump it' system we have here in the UK.

So would you be happy with privatising the NHS and going for a Swiss style basic insurance system?

Who anticipated the EU to collapse at this stage, who is getting angry that it hasn't collapsed? Some citations would be lovely.

Brexit thread in SC, many predictions of Wilders/Le Pen victories and imminent departure of Holland and France.

Some posters in there moving on to predicting the departure of Eastern European countries now!

Although some people may have been too hasty with the predictions, there is absolutely no denying anti-EU sentiments are on the rise across Europe. It's not unreasonable to imagine another nation will leave the bloc.

So government taking control of all TOC's just means a lot more work to do. Also now that it's all owned by a single entity, how do they determine which services run from where, and how frequently and at what cost. I think it's been regularly stated that a lot of the main services that run in and out of London actually subsidise a lot of the services in Scotland for example. A TOC can likely operate in the manner of making a loss on one line when they more than make up for it with another. I can't see how a government owned entity will ever be able to operate in that manner. Just look at how inefficiently run parts of the NHS is.

I don't really understand your reasoning here - why would it suddenly become impossible to figure out timetables? Why wouldn't a government be able to use surplus on certain routes to subsidise other routes in the way that a TOC can? That's pretty much what taxes achieve.

You can argue that government run is inherently less efficient than privately run if you want, but that's not a prerequisite of public ownership. East Coast was returning 'profits' to the exchequer after National Express decided they couldn't be bothered to operate it any more.

On the contrary, support for the EU is up across Europe since the Brexit vote. Must be the fantastic job the tories are doing of handling the process!

Again show me where the EU has said the price is 100 billion now? You cant. Its an opinion piece in the papers. Just like most of the lies and spin printed for the last 20 years by some papers, trying to blame the EU for everything.

Haha yet you lap up what they said happened at the dinner as 100% factual.

The 100 billion has been widely reported - if inaccurate they must have denied it surely?

Of course not. I said before in another thread - in order for the UK to remain a world leader we need a strong welfare state and a strong NHS. My point is we have the ability to lead in some areas but we shouldn't try and lead with our fingers in our ears. We need direction from other countries who have advanced in areas we haven't, and vice versa. We should be setting a positive example, because we can.

You were just praising the Swiss system in the previous post so I wasn't quite clear. What do you mean in this context by the second two sentences re: healthcare? In particular: "We need direction from other countries who have advanced in areas we haven't"

As far as I'm concerned good. Raise the bill to 200 billion, essentially as high as it needs to go before the idiots who voted for it realise it isn't going to work.

Thanks to the EU vote people I work with are losing their job (British nationals working in higher education)

Was that part of your Brexit dream?
