Gangureivu. Excellent. Follows the exploits of gang member Burandon Heato.
Gangureivu is a slow burn, but the characters are built up carefully. Relationships between past and present events drive the narrative and provide motivation for the cast. Very nicely done, and not at all what I was expecting from an anime that looked like it was going to be just another gun-and-run bulletfest.
Hokuto no Ken. Superb. Follows the exploits of post-apocalyptic hero Kenshiro.
Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu. Magnificent. Follows the exploits of mysterious prince Rurūshu vi Buritania.
Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu is refreshingly intelligent, with a ton of fantastic plot twists. At the outset you assume the protagonist has all the advantages, but as the story unfolds you find he has more than enough enemies who match or outclass him. It's really great to see an anime in which the hero actually loses meaningful battles and suffers great setbacks. Character development is another standout feature: the evolution of Rurūshu vi Buritania throughout the series is utterly gripping. I consider this anime a classic tragedy.
Monsutā. Oustanding. Follows the exploits of Japanese doctor Kenzō Tenma. A slow burn, but definitely worth the time investment. If you haven't watched
Monsutā already, cue it up right now. Best anime I've seen in years.
Herushingu Ultimate. Didn't get enough
Herushingu last time? Want more ultraviolence? Wondering if Seras Victoria's boobs could possibly get any larger? (spoiler: OH YES THEY CAN!

)
Herushingu Ultimate has got you covered. I thought the original was great, but
Ultimate cranks it all the way up to 11. Good times!
Ergo Proxy (second or third time, not sure). One of the most intelligent anime I've ever seen. Gritty, philosophical, contemplative, and complex, with outrageously powerful visuals. Vincent Law is an anti-hero par excellence. Highly recommended!
Texhnolyze. What a trip!

This series has a pretty strong
Serial Experiments Lain vibe. The narrative becomes increasingly fragmented as the series progresses, and the last five episodes are quite surreal. Overall: good solid cyberpunk, just like mother used to make.

Puranetesu. The animation quality and attention to detail are both sensational. Solid hard sci-fi. Loving it.
