They were definitely hacked, but the 'Caymans bank account' crap is fake. There's nothing in the leaks that damages Macron.
The timing is a bit off - if whoever did it wanted to inflict damage then they'd have been better off having anything controversial released a few days ago when French media could actually report on them.
No, not according to the BBC, according to Marcon's campaign. The BBC is merely reporting that claim they've not stated anything themselves about the validity of the documents. AFAIK Wikileaks is also checking the contents too.
Wikileaks have historically been very good about checking their sources and ensuring accurate data. Besides, there's no mainstream political party that isn't riddled with corruption - why weaken your case when you can guarantee that the real stuff alone is going to contain plenty of dirt?
MAYBE there are fakes in amongst the real documents, but I wouldn't take Macron's word for it.
People will search for it on the internet.
What it does do by releasing it now, is stop Macron having the right of reply to defend himself.
well regardless of whether there are any fakes it is certainly in his interests for his campaign to make the assertion that there are fake docs involved likewise the democrats did similar when they suffered from leaks though I'm not sure that any actual fakes had been singled out

If there was anything damaging, we'd know about it by now. The hackers would have pulled it out and distributed it separately, as they did with Clinton.
We don't need to take Macron's word for it, the French police have already identified the fake documents.
