If you are using an inside drift bike this can happen a lot as the red shell hits your side. Other combos with high traction can drift tight enough to cause this glitch too.

I could talk at length about the algorithms Nintendo have used to royally screw me out of cheating the system to get an unfair speed + mini boost rating, and how they have annoyingly linked acceleration to other stats!

I don't care about acceleration, let me sacrifice it for speed and traction!

There is also a hard cap on the Speed + Mini Turbo pairing, almost like they hate data analysts :(

You can get 5.75 speed though if you are happy with a sub 2 rating for most other stats :p

46 is the max overall points you can possibly get with the combinations if you're interested, but that only has 2.25 speed. I can drop 1 point of efficiency to get a nice 4 speed though.

Edit: Never, ever use any of these karts. They are all terrible and there are objectively better alternatives:
Prancer, Sport Bike , Jet Bike
Sneeker, Gold Standard , Master Cycle, Bounder
Steel Driver, Tri-Speeder , Bone Rattler
Circuit Special, B-Dasher , P-Wing
Badwagon, GLA , Standard ATV

Wow hardcore. I like the crimson slim tyres because of their colour :D
 
But actually I do deliberately favour an 'all rounder' kart with good handling.

There's no point being fast if you slow to a crawl every time you're hit or nudge a verge - and I like being precise with the slides.

This game is superb, gf loves it and more pro controllers arrived for some 4 player mayhem!

The best tracks are the smaller ones whereby with 12 players it is insane chaos

The game is designed to tax you heavily if you try to make any start too high so an average kart works well.

So in a nutshell K, what are you trying to say for non-algorithm minded people like me?
 
The sum of the key attributes (speed + mini turbo) caps out at 7.75 so you need to choose how you want those 7.75 points are spread out.

If you give me the stats you want I have made a calculator to give you all the combos that meet those stats.

Anyone got all the gold parts unlocked yet? Managed to get the gold cart last night ( at least one star in each mirror gp).
Another involves beating all the Nintendo ghosts in the 150cc time trials - that may take a bit longer. ;)
 
I don't have any gold parts yet. Finished off the 50cc cups now I move on to 100cc. Using the above has really helped my speed. I don't have all the items yet though.

Done all the time trials but I refuse to go past a GP until I triple star it.

3 starring 200cc without cheating (picking a low speed kart so all the AI go slow too) is a pain!

When you get stars on 150cc is gives you the stars for 50cc and 100cc too.

Played some online races and I am definitely improving. I can get into the top 5 most times where as before I was at the back. Game is insanely fun!
 
When I first picked this up I thought the karts, wheels, glider etc were all just cosmetic :eek:

The game has a surprising amount of depth with respect to all the different combinations.

Wouldn't know where to even begin.

How did you work out the stats for mini turbo btw/
 
Have you lot played around with the highlight reels with the thumbsticks for the slow mo function? It's the best way to capture your favourite screenshots :)
It's a real shame it doesn't have the YouTube function like the WiiU had. Maybe it will get added in the near future when more apps land on the system.
