**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

So the strangest thing happened on Wednesday. Was sat at my desk, message pops up prompting the software update so I figured I'd let it install whilst I was working. Phone restarts and the screen has gone all blotchy with a red tint. It's hard to describe it's like wherever a plain white background should have been, it was as if the phone had loaded a horribly pixelated texture of crunched up paper. There was also a bizarre artefact on the right hand side that looked like someone had spilt fluid inside the display.

After panicking and Samsung being absolutely useless on Twitter insisting it was a hardware fault. I changed the colour balance settings of the edge display. The phone reset and it was all back to normal. How bizarre!

That aside I'm a new S8+ user after countless years with the iPhone. Haven't looked back, much prefer it to the iPhone 7+ I had before. Also pleased to be moving away from Apple, their relentless pursuit of style and form over substance has really started to P me off. Next thing to go is my MBP because the new one is just a complete and utter joke.

Oh and great to have upgraded to a headphone jack too!

Also on a different matter the battery life of the S8+ is definitely improving. When I first got it I was besides myself at how quickly the battery percentage was dropping compared to my old I7+ which seemed to stay 90%-100% for ages after a full charge. It appears the Samsung battery % is far more linear though. When the iPhone got to 50% it was definitely more like the last 20%. The Sammy just goes on and on and on...

The S8 battery is a good one, getting very good screen on times. Been turning off some settings to squeeze some more out of it.

I'll end up with 9 hours SoT today if the battery continues as it is. If I use the screen less, Android battery dribble leaves me with SoT estimates closer to 5 hours.

I've forgotten to charge my 8+ some nights but my 50 min commute to work with fast charger in my car means I get there with a full battery and I couldn't drain it whilst at work no matter how hard I tried. Battery life is no issue for me whatsoever, I have everything switched on/cranked up to full. :D

Am amazed that actually worked, especially with the 4TB HDD plugged in without the need for an additional power source.

Loving my S8+ having come from an iphone 6s+.

One random issue though, my keyboard sounds don't seem to work, option is ticked in the settings but don't click when I type, weirdly if I connect to my Bluetooth speaker they work coming through the speaker? Any ideas? I prefer sound to vibrate when typing. :-)

Anyone know how to set the lock screen timeout. When I press the power button the screen only stays on for 5 seconds. I have been in the settings and change the screen timeout to 2 mins which works fine when the phone is unlocked but can't find the setting for the screen in locked mode?

Go to settings, lock screen and security, secure lock settings and then select lock automatically at the top.

TIP!

If you take a screenshot, then click the crop button once, it auto-crops out notification bar and navbar. If you don't click crop, it keeps them in.

On the S7/S7e running Nougat, clicking the crop button brings up a crop box, and you have to manually size the box to the area you want to keep.
