Theresa May to create new internet that would be controlled and regulated by government

Facebook you have a choice to use it or not or how much to share with it - someone logging your internet connection doesn't give you the same options except to limit your use at a bigger scale.

Facebook also can't send you to prison, force major changes in your life or restrict you from using other services.

Facebook can't ban you from signing up to another social network either.

No, obviously not, but that isn't happening and it's not even close.
But that is what is happening online! That's the point - evidently you are completely missing it again and again.

That is what the government legislation is designed to do with your online life.

Who's been sent to prison, these are such huge leaps, remember you need evidence, innocent until proven guilty in front of a judge

But it's not the same, there isnt anyone looking at my data, someone following me would actually be looking at me. Do you think there is somone on a computer somewhere looking at what youre doing right now?

It's not who, it's a discussion on the power the government have over and above Facebook. If you break a rule on Facebook the worst the can do is ban you from their service. If you break a rule on "real life" the government can put you in prison.

Let's be clear here, you brought up Facebook. ;)

So your issue is the someone physically following you?

In which case would you be happy having to legally carry round a tracking device that logged where you went, who you talked to and what you said? The data then stored on servers for organizations to then view as and when they wanted?

I don't understand really, so if you break the rules, you don't want to go to prison?

Physically following someone is different, isnt it.

We already are carrying around phones and stuff, write a petition or something. I think it's been done for the right reasons, you lot obviously think theres an evil agenda, i just don't think that.
Seriously, can we not agree to disagree about what were willing to give up for security. I feel pretty safe in the UK, and i don't feel like im caged. Win win for me.
Reality is far from ideologue

So you'd be perfectly happy with someone following you round all day, logging where you went and who you saw/talked to on a daily basis?

And exactly what you said, how you said it, what tone of voice you used, how that data can be analysed to predict your future actions through the algorithms that have been created and increasing the attention paid to you if the algorithm says you're a higher risk than another.

No, obviously not, but that isn't happening and it's not even close.

That is EXACTLY what this is.

It already happens to a basic extent... this bill grants them the power to collect ALL data available, indiscriminately. No warrant, nothing... they can even get a warrant based upon their observations.

If it means 10% regulation will save 1 life, then i'm all for it.

You do realise that by following that logic through it's not long before complete regulation is a reality and suddenly it's 1984?

problem is, this kind of regulation isn't going to help, you take your mythical ebay hitman and take his internet away? well you know what he's just going to go back to taking jobs the old fashioned way.

try this on for size, replace the phrase "control the internet" to "monitoring all your phone lines, your mail, and fitting cameras and microphones to your home", because that's how far it will get if we let it.

Yes there is, it is law at the moment... despite being declared illegal by the European Parliament... it is happening right now and this bill only expands what they can do with it.

It is an algorithm assessing your data and those classified as higher risk get more attention.

You ever heard of the snoopers charter?

^^ This has already been pointed out to you.

Following people's online lives is no different. Some/most of us spend more time infront of a computer than we do wondering around the streets.

Like, i actually can't see the problem here, it's no different to when we had no internet, the police just relied on info from the citizens. If youre at high risk of committing a crime, they will access you. Yes please, stop that child molester, stop that terrorist.

This is called brainwashing... they use fear to do it to you... it is a psychological attack on your mental well-being and you have allowed it to happen to you... seek help man
