They do. One is a replacement already, but is just as pink. The one it replaced had loads of paint missing.

Finding parts had been easy peasy. Occasionally a bit pricey, but always easy touch-wood.

I probably wouldn't have had the same experience if I'd bought an E21.

The 35is is a bit of a rocket, an M version would probably have just needed suspension tweaks rather than more power.

I can see their point though. They would have been designing this in like 2007 - hardly the right time to start increasing costs and building cars when banks were going bankrupt! It is a shame, but I imagine to build an M car takes a lot more money.

With M cars, most of the the body needs to be redesigned, the car needs new suspension, LSD/M-Diffs included, new tyres, exhausts, bespoke or semi-bespoke engines (which isn't happening so much anymore), intensive track testing and with more considerations about heat and emissions.

Or, you could just avoid all of that and drop in the engine from the 335i and have no additional expenses, and still have a "hot" one in the range, albeit without the marketing opportunities/kudos.
