Just noticed we don't have a Thunderstorm thread for 2017, we have one every year!

Anyone get those big storms last night? Watched a cam and it was flashing every 5 seconds

Forecast Summary
Today
Very warm with sunshine initially in the east, and thundery showers in the west. Showers will move northeast through the morning, becoming dry with sunny spells by the afternoon, though low cloud may linger around some southern counties. Becoming windy.

Forecast Summary
Sunday
Dry and warm with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells, perhaps some sea fog affecting Kent and Sussex. Becoming humid with a chance of thunderstorms moving north later.

Some of the flash rates where up past 150 per minute at some points! The storm that hit Plymouth around 1 am(ish) was the most violent (lightning wise) I have ever seen in the UK.

Wow :D

Started here about 15 mins ago. Think it's already passing though. Good thing I didn't go for a ride this morning as I'd be out about now.

I drove from Bristol to home near Bodmin around midnight last night and it was amazing. Easily several flashes per second, it was so bright, you could easily make out the colours of the grass and things outside. There were obviously a lot of seperate cells in close proximity and the whole sky was lighting up, and the thunder was just non-stop.

It was incredible. Woke up just after 1am to what I thought was a flashing light right outside only to see it was constant lightning. Went on for nearly an hour and didn't hear a single rumble of thunder, then the thunder arrived, it ****** down for 5 minutes then stopped again. My room was still being lit up every second when I went back to bed around 2:30am.

Posted a screen shot of Lightning Map in the It's Too Hot thread and the flashes per minute were ridiculous.

Slept through the whole thing but it woke my gf up who initially thought it was emergency services outside our house. a lot of lightning but no thunder here (south Devon)

I got woken up about 1AM to the sounds of thunder then looked out my window to see an amazing light show.

Like others have said its the most intense lightning i have ever seen.
