Did Michael Jackson really have a skin condition that made him white?

there is no way he had any skin condition. he was proper black when he was a kid. then magically when he hits adult age he starts to get lighter and lighter.

Vitiligo doesn't necessarily appear from birth. With me, it's only over the last few years it's become noticeable. Thankfully I'm not black and don't tan much, so it's subtle.

As for genetics, my grandma has it. My dad and his sister don't. Me and my sister do, but my brother doesn't. It's a hereditary generic condition, but not one that effects everyone.

With Michael Jackson, it seems he decided the best solution in the end was to just go fully white.

No doubt one of our residents will be along to confirm shortly.

having read wikipedia for a few seconds while sitting in my armchair I believe that the condition is in fact treatable (at least these days) though the treatment can involve dealing with the autoimmune reaction and/or exposing the skin to UV to restore pigmentation i.e. rather the opposite of lightening all over with bleach

Vitiligo is pretty common, with 1% of the population having some vitiligo. Given that I am white, it's not much of a problem for me, but I do have quite a few patches on my body from it: jaw, neck, stomach, arm, groin area, knee, fingertips. Only really noticeable to others when I am tanned and of course I need to protect that skin more from the sun. The strangest thing is that the hair which grows on those patches is stark white.

Anyway yeah, very common. No problem for white people really, but if you naturally had dark skin, guess it could feel uncomfortable. Chances are a few people posting here have it and just don't realise.
