You would have to have an oxygen supply and one of those serious heat reflecting blankets, and even then your time would be limited. There are stories of trapped firemen hunkering down like this in forest fires, but in those stories they choose their spot, usually have time to make a firebreak, and wait out the fire with right equipment and training.
Indeed, I hope it's not "self aggrandising" to say May appears to display a lack of empathy and/or social emotional intelligence when dealing with people.
For me that which appears to be missing / weak is a major problem for a leader negotiating across the world and at home with various interest groups, not to mention the duplicity of her words and actions so far, opening speech about helping the "just about managing's" Austerity, 7 years in from being home secretary and PM after 3 guys with knives attacked London "enough is enough" here is some draconian internet replacement like china I've been trying to push...
Note even with massive amounts of video evidence and voting records etc, this is not a diagnosis nor does it allude to a diagnosis, it is however a pretty good reason people are decreasingly likely to vote to aid her in being PM!

May did exactly the right thing in not meeting the residents and locals on site. Within 2 or 3 days of the event a spokesman was chosen who just happened to be a Left wing political activist, and to have been a man of interest to the authorities on matters of terrorism, demanding this that and the other via a megaphone thrust into the camera lenses, a mob had attempted to break down the doors of the Town Hall, and once inside needed forcibly ejecting after trying to get to the executive offices. Ludicrous demands to know who are dead were made, when it's patently obvious this will take a very long time to ascertain, (even assuming DNA data is held on many), a march on Downing Street, the BBC headquarters, and other major centres is orchestrated by people angry about God knows what, and elements of the Left wing media go into free fall to blame the PM and spending cuts for a fire for which proper data is not yet even available, and a building whose renovation was not, as far as I understand, even government funded. Under the guise of care for the victims an element of society has engineered the opportunity to rabble rouse in the worst possible way.
Even assuming sub optimal materials were used The PM has no experience of such matters, and should not be expected to have experience of fire and building regulations and design, and was not, and never will be, in a position to sign such works off. These matters are delegated to local authorities and further on to their planners and building inspectors.
She needs to just get on with running the country, expediting a hard Brexit, and delegating most aspects of investigating and supporting this incident to those more appropriately qualified. To get too personally involved is to just invite more unwarranted Left wing attacks, as the agenda is now obvious.

The head of our government cannot hide because she might get some abuse. Sadiq got abuse, but he still went, thats what leaders do. Even just having a target to rant and rave at will help the victims, they are scared, and angry, and it could do with a target, any target right now.
This is one thing that isn't May's fault, but it is her job to deal with the consequenses. She chose this role when she took on being PM. I find it very scary that my PM will do all in her power to avoid confrontation. How on earth is she going to get anything at all done if she wont stand up to opposition?
So who is responsible for allowing the Lifeboats to be installed on the ship?

Forget the analogy it's silly. While the advice to stay in your flat was sound initially and is standard procedure, I believe it should have been changed after thirty minutes once it became clear that it was spreading rapidly.

Seems to be a bit of a shambles - still a lot of people complaining no one has told them what to do about accommodation after the first 24 hours - promises of more and more visible support staff yet 48 hours on nothing, etc.
1) I don't think Sadiq was expecting the 'reception' he received.....
2) I don't think May was 'hiding' she made an early, low profile, visit to the site and made a follow up visit to see some of the survivors in hospital. Unfortunately in todays world of 24/7 news, quick Facebook 'solidarity' and 'we stand with X' memes and 'trending' hashtags peoples reactions to tragic events have turned into some sort of emotional incontinence Olympic where its a competition to be one of the leaders in showing just how much you care (whilst not actually doing anything constructive to solve any problems at hand)
3) Jeremey Corbyn showed himself to be the disgrace he is in his actions immediately after this fire and offered a chilling view of the country we would have if he and his comrades ever got to have some real power.
In suggesting that in response to the incident that the state should just arbitrarily seize the 'vacant' properties of the 'rich' to house those displaced from the tower he engineered a classical false dichotomy.....
The options following the disaster were NOT limited to allowing those left homeless by the fire to rough it in the streets OR seizing the 'vacant' 'luxury' properties of the 'rich' whilst of course having a compliant media to engaging in a bit of innuendo to suggest that such address were 'probably' owned by shady offshore corporations most likely engaged in laundering 'dirty' money as a justification to just bin hundreds of years or developing human rights against the tyranny of a unaccountable dictator or state (point of note: I expect fully that this IS the case for SOME properties in London but we have due process for a reason).
Of course anyone with half a brain would know that his suggestion wasn't even the most practical solution to address even the immediate problem at hand (housing those displaced).... how exactly do you go about identifying which properties to arbitrarily seize in short order and who they are 'assigned' to with out it turning into an orgy of house breaking and looting?
Corbyn was of course engaging in a classical piece of 'dog whistle' propaganda in invoking the politics of envy by tacitly suggesting before the facts were in that it was the 'rich' who were responsible for the fire any deaths caused and as such it was legitimate to make them 'pay' by arbitrarily seizing their properties....
Worst of all was large sections of the media (and some posters here), who should know better, lapping up his vile suggestion. Idiots are always for someone 'else's' stuff being
Of course all sorts of disingenuous excuses were made to support Corbyn's grubby stab at the politics of envy 'well property has been seized during wars' (we aren't at war in relation to the tower burning down) and compulsory purchase orders that are used for infrastructure (necessary as otherwise nothing would get built and subject to a protracted consultation and legal process to weigh up the individual rights of any opposed land owners vs the collective need for new or expanded infrastructure)

You are wasting your time - while Corbyn is telling people what they want to hear and projecting what they want to see they are incapable of seeing anything like that and will remain so until/if he gets into a position to enact what he really believes to a point it affects them personally.
Its not just that I don't like Corbyn.... I don't 'like' Teresa May in fact I despise some of her actions and policies. I just have my own appreciation as to the relative merits and pitfalls of different systems and political ideologies

When the shadow chancellor, McDonnel, appointed by Corbyn gets up to speak at a political rally under a communist flag its actually not exactly hyperbole to suggest some equivalency between the current labour administration and communism.
