Tower block fire - london

Except it is relevant, perhaps if the prices weren't controlled by a select few speculative ultra-rich people playing with London's property market like a bloody boardgame, certain council focus might be less on accommodating people that aren't even living in these places?

Your other points aren't interesting, i don't give a **** if "comrade" Corbyn starts up gulags in north London, it doesn't affect me.

It betrays him that it is immediately where he went to in that situation rather than looking at the normal options for temporarily accommodating a relatively small number of displaced people until permanent solutions can be found - it isn't like its a war time scenario with mass displacement that might require more drastic measures.

What you talk about might be an overarching issue that needs addressing or looking into but at the proper time and place with the proper measures.

no I don't 'agree' with the actions of some London property purchasers.you have just set up your own false dichotomy.... The choices are not limited to

1) allowing the state to seize property when it suits every time there's some form of 'emergency'

and

2) allowing London to increasingly become a money laundering repository for the global rich....

well its ok just as long as it doesn't affect you? Why are you here going on about this disaster then. Did you live in the tower?

are you seriously suggesting your a moral or caring person by stating that you could not care if JC set up gulags in the UK? Do you know what they were used for and the circumstances of a lot of people that were sent there?

I'm glad however that we have, at least in your case, dispelled the myth that your pontificating is because you want some state that will be better for all or even most people....

So whos in trouble for this then?

Chancellor Philip Hammond says Grenfell cladding was banned in UK
Questions have been asked about why the Grenfell Tower fire spread so quickly, with some suggesting new cladding fitted during a recent refurbishment could have been to blame.

Chancellor Philip Hammond told the BBC's Andrew Marr that a criminal investigation would examine whether building regulations had been breached when the block was renovated.

^^ He says it is his "understanding" that they are banned here but that there needs to be an investigation to ascertain the facts because they might be banned in some uses and not others, etc. which may or may not be relevant here.

On a different note this is where people are getting the numbers of 500+ dead from - larger numbers of bodies it seems have been found in some rooms - which is likely due to people grouping together to try and find a way out i.e. 4-5 lots of people from different flats grouping together in one flat - but some people are extrapolating that to suggest that there would have been similar numbers in most rooms.

The cladding company has already responded saying he's talking bobbins:-

A cladding believed to have been used on Grenfell Tower was not banned in the UK.

John Cowley, managing director of CEP Architectural Facades which fabricated the rainscreen panels and windows for Grenfell Tower's cladding sub-contractor Harley Facades Ltd, said: "Reynobond PE is not banned in the UK.

"Current building regulations allow its use in both low-rise and high-rise structures.

"The key question now is whether the overall design of the building's complete exterior was properly tested and subsequently signed off by the relevant authorities including the fire officer, building compliance officer and architect before commencement of the project

TBH I think there is a bit of face saving playing with words going on from each side and we won't really know for sure until a proper investigation. Current building regulations might allow its "use" (for instance in limited quantities well spread out say) but it still might be banned in that particularly configuration of use.

Just finished a 4 hour stint at a donation centre sorting through stuff. Still seems fairly chaotic and there is room for better co-ordination.

The volunteers on the ground are doing a great job and we did get through a lot, but needs more coming from government that's for sure. Properly thought out systems etc to make sure it's done as efficiently as possible. Maybe even just guidance available for how it should go on the ground.

I don't know, maybe that was available, it just still felt like controlled chaos in the warehouse. Arranging care packages without knowing fully where everything is etc. Let's hope everyone gets what they need ASAP.

Is anything actually going to those that need it?

Yeah council response is shambolic to say the least :(

EDIT: Though there is one aspect to that - many have been complaining about being rehoused outside of the area - but most of the accommodation within the area is high rise/multi level flats so kind of catch 22 for the council.

What do they expect them to do? There is a shortage of council housing, especially in london. Most if not all hotels will be high rise. They don't want to be moved out of the area.
They are literally left with no option.

I really hope the penny drops one day.

So an unqualified, self aggrandising interjection, alluding to the amusements of imaginary psychology students and total failure of self reflection, appears the more likely summation than a BACP member with a valid professional input!

Sums up some people here.

Wow, as if May didn't build her surveillance laws on the corpses of children in Manchester and people at London Bridge?

Just stop, atleast half the amount of people that died between 2000 and now from terrorism (almost 9 million minutes), died within 30 minutes because of poor governance, but Snoopers got through easy (which shows Labour up to being *********) while better housing regulations were blocked purely by Tories, with the winning vote decided by Tory MP's with extreme bias while running their own property empires.

I don't make a habit of patronising jibes at people (something hopefully shown in my posting history here) - you might want to contemplate on why I did that specifically in a couple of posts - also you don't seem to know what self-aggrandising actually means especially as you thought it was a diagnosis of a disorder when I was using it as a marking characteristic of potential disorders - what you were pointing to was belittlement and demonstrably done on purpose for effect. Neither do you seem to understand the context of those so called "imaginary psychology students".

Your protestations about professional input are missing the mark - at no point did I offer a summation I simply used gutter level Paxman like psychology for demonstrable effect.

This political point scoring needs to stop. Especially when you take a closer look beyond the sound bites apparently (I've yet to check)

However Sadiq Khan talking about fire brigade being underfunded from the Boris era... It wasn't too long ago that he signed off on a report saying the London Fire brigade was adequately funded...

Then same by Torys saying how many labour MPs are on the managing agents board, etc.

Just heard that apparently 40 bodies were found in one room. Although this was a video from residents citing one of their close friends who works for the LFB but who wishes to remain anonymous... It then develops into a conspiracy theory, ethnic cleansing, cover up. Unfortunately.
