This is simply a kneejerk reaction to Threadripper, Intel caught with their pants down not expecting AMD to offer a competitive product in the enthusiast sector.
I would consider a 7800k but that, with a board, plus suitable RAM would end up at the best part of double the cost of a Ryzen system which would suit me in a similar way.

100% correct. Those prices, just for a mobo I'll add, are mental. "Budget" version of these mobos start at £230! Then you need to get the RAM and of course the billion quid CPU. INTEL are going to get humped when TR comes out.
