I don't remember bad impressions for the 7950/70 or the 290 really.
I don't remember any negative issues at 7900 series launch, 290s launch was mired a bit by a batch of them that suffered with random black screens - mostly down to issues with a certain brand of the memory modules used on some I believe though in more limited numbers was seen on other cards as well.
People got so much energy discussing something that has been discussed to death now. Lets see the first reviews now then we can talk.

If I remember right performance of the 79 series was ok ish on release but within 2 months after driver updates it was a different beast all together and made it a serious contender
Yeah, it was terrible the way they battered the GTX580/570 on performance and price, then battered the GTX680/670 when they arrived, then the GTX770/760 before ending up <20% behind the GTX780 at half the price.79xx release
Ignore nvidia for God sake.
Vega doesn't need anything from nvidia AMD fans or people just looking for better bang for buck monitor plus GPU will be watching Vega.
So what if Nvidia has had this performance for over a year it means nothing to me and am sure I not alone.
Even if Vega is the same price has 1080 AMD still offer the best complete PC setup for price and performance.
Monitors, CPU's, motherboards and GPUs
All nvidia care about is ripping of their highend market with GPU after GPU Ti ripping into the TX for example. It's a joke and only the die hard nvidia fans on here defend this practice.
Steam Hardware Survey – June 2017: NVIDIA GPUs Reign Supreme on PC’s Biggest Gaming Platform, GTX 1060 Now The Most Popular Card
No, it may be genuine RX Vega with 8GB, but its performance is not better than FE (running same clocks)Don't think so, no reason why 3DM would suddenly start recognizing the vega FE as having 8gb of vram.
Good for them. Won't make a difference to my decision. All AMD need to do is price it right and I and many others here will buy happily
The last time Steam gave me the survey was when I had a GTX 980 years ago. :/
Anyone know the frequency at which the survey is sent out?

At this point you sound like what you are accusing others of being, a die hard. Why do you care what NVidia's strategy is? You don't even buy GPUs that often, let alone every timw a GPU is released. Best idea is to forget all this brand loyalty crap and just buy whatever you need, when you need it. I see so many people waiting and waiting and waiting, while I got my 1080 in June last year ... Saving a few quid here and there does not justify a long wait for anything ... NVidia is selling cards, either buy them or not. What's the problem?

Of course it the RX Vega, it was a response to Mauller's comment, that I forgot to quote :
"That apparent leaked RX Vega score is no different to what can be achieved with Vega FE, Define the guy who first benchmarked one got scores around that when he managed to stabalise the clocks to 1600MHz. All of his scores are on Videocards.
which makes me thinks its just a Vega FE thats not being recognised properly."
