Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

Awful deal for Everton really. Lost a player on 90k a week and will sign Rooney on three times that. Big fee but they are losing 20 league goals a season and replacing him with a past it Rooney.

I doubt that Rooney will be a one to one replacement. There is no way Everton will be paying him anything like what he was on at United either. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Rooney is getting his salary heavily subsidised by United. If he had an ounce of loyalty or respect for United he would simply take the pay cut to keep playing football elsewhere. He is insanely rich and another few million won't make much difference to him.

Unless Rooney knuckles down I can't see Koeman playing him. He doesn't seem like the kind of manager who will play someone unless he brings something to the team. And he could be second fiddle to Ramirez anyway who could end up being the bargain of the season if he continues his form from La Liga.

Doesn't sound like Rooney..

Doesn't sound like any footballer, why should he show loyalty and respect by not taking the money. When his time was up and it is now they wouldn't show him any. Or say thanks a lot Wayne have 5m. It's the clubs fault for giving him such a lengthy deal.

Because he is getting paid a crazy sum of money and has basically not given a single **** about his craft for quite a while now. Because millions of United fans have idolised him for years and essentially paid his wages and made sure that he is set for life many times over.

I know that Ronaldo and Rooney are not the same players but one dedicates their life to being the best footballer they can be and the other one wouldn't look out of place in the local sunday leagues changing room. There is absolutely no excuse for being a tubby little potato when you are a professional footballer in any capacity. Anyone getting paid the amount he is should be at the peak of physical fitness.

I loved Rooney as a player for a number of years but the way he has let himself decline and seemingly done nothing to try and regain any sort of form is embarrassing.

Wow, so Morata was apparently a smokescreen for Lukaku who was our main target - if the club are to be believed.

£75m is a lot cheaper than I was expecting too. Let's be honest, he's the best PL striker behind Kane who's in the same sort of mould, and he's still young and can improve.

We should hopefully have better quality players assisting him than Everton, in theory at least.

My one big concern is the fact he struggles against the better teams, but he's good against weaker teams - which are the majority - hopefully he can improve on that further.

Raiola often uses Jim White as his mouthpiece.

What? I honestly have no idea what your criticism of the formula is.

You do realise that Utd's turnover in 2002 was just £175m. £30m was over 17% of Utd's turnover. Utd last season turned over around £570 - £75m will be around 13% of turnover. Whichever way you want to look at it, £75m on Lukaku is a lot less than £30m on Ferdinand in 2002.

edit: The formula is far from perfect and you can get your odd anomaly but as a general rule and to give you a rough idea of inflation in football it's very useful.

And while of course everybody has more money now (that's the inflation I mentioned), Utd are actually more richer than the rest (as a whole) now than in 2002.

Makes the Buffon and Zidane fees look mind boggling yet both clubs got their money's worth!

God knows what De gea will be worth in today's money.

He's young and has proven he can score goals, I am just a bit concerned about his work ethic and consistency.

I imagine thats the concern that many will be having, even the Utd fans in this thread have in past threads on here slated Lukaku for some of his performances. I think thats part of the reason that I'm surprised by the 75m price, strikes me as a lot for a player who you just dont know if he is going to play a blinder this week or the game will pass him by. I've got the suspicion that as much as we will see posts on here this season lauding Lukakus superb goal in a winning match, we will equally see posts on here this season berating Lukakus nonexistent presence in a non-winning match.

I somehow doubt Rooney will settle for £150k a week at Everton, I wouldn't be surprised if United are heavily subsidising his wages by waivering the £10m fee and probably lobbing something extra onto Lukakus's fee. Rooney strikes me as the type who would happily threaten to sit on United's bench for the next few years than take a hit to his ego and pocket.
