74 under prime is at the limit but ok.

The 1800X just runs a premium that I don't think is warranted on a mainstream platform is all. The marginal performance difference between the speeds and reduced hassle factors etc. do have some value but 120-130 quid is going to deliver real benefit if, for example, invested in a better GPU or going from 16gb to 32gb etc.

If you have the cash why not - though I guess I do have the cash and still didn't think it worth the extra

But then I bought a high end 1080ti so I'm probably not one to talk about diminishing returns

My (1800X) does 4.0 at around 1.34v. Can you lower voltage further?

Probably but i've not really pushed it since my WC setup is pretty... urm overkill... So temps are well under control. Basically I can't be bothered to spend so long testing and refining for small amounts, that said it does run 4.1 at 1.45v so there is probably some room to lower, 4.1 is not rock solid though it will run benches presumably because I don't want to give it more volts.

Fair play to you though you do a lot more testing and refining than me

This board doesnt have PState overclocking out the box. However there is a custom bios available that unlocks a load of other features.

Im running it fine with a 3.9 pstate overclock.

bit more tinkering, lowered vcore a bit more but left calibration on turbo, tops out at 71 so far (for only a few seconds) on my real bench stress test with no crash (av temp 64-68). Only 15 mins in so far, but when I did it before (with higher volts) it was toasting at 74-75 within 5 minutes.

I think there is a caution on LLC for causing overshoots on voltage after load. So advice was to be careful and not use more than the moderate settings. One of the better informed guys can probably confirm...

Its basically the latest 805 bios but with a lot of extra options unlocked.

So shocking ASUS are not giving PState OC'ing on anything below C6H.

I'm aware someone did a mod bios for ASUS Prime X370, mind sharing info where the Strix one is? Wanna add links to a thread of mine on OCN.

I believe zenstates works on all asus boards. Not ideal but better for those not comfortable flashing a modded bios.

Unsure if its pointless or not. I wanted mine to downclock on idle and was not sure it actually does that with a blanket overclock? Aida etc never showed it downclocking.

Mine now idles around 2ghz and getting 28-30 degrees idle temps. Though the cores are always jumping about as there isnt really a completely idle state.

Well my board had great reviews but I am struggling with overclock, its either my inexperience with OC or some other limitations.Looking at the guides it should be straight forward set multiplier to 38-39 up the voltage and off you go. But in my case its not that simple.

Give us some more info, symptoms and how you're testing, voltages and temperatures etc. and sure someone can help...

Buildzoid did testing, but the testing method is not sound. For example wall plug meter at low loads are inaccurate, then higher rated PSU will be inefficient at lower loads, so further inaccuracy.

I believe zenstates works on all asus boards. Not ideal but better for those not comfortable flashing a modded bios.

I really don't like OC SW for 24/7 OC setup. Just one more thing to go nutting, etc. Even on GPU I prefer bios mod.

So for me big shame ASUS are gimping boards below C6H. Comparable other competitor's products have PState OC'ing, seem they will drive people to purchase those IMO.

so you know that AIO can not be put in the top of 400C (will hit your VRMs normally), which will mean your 1080Ti will cook from CPU heat, consider the 600C if you want AIO at the top ORcheck out the phantek evolve if you want a window.

My AIO is mounted in the top of my 400C.

I have AIO as intake. Not sure it makes that much difference as these CPUs are so cool during gaming even overclocked.

I do however have floor intakes directly onto GPU so not a direct comparison to yours.

Looks like my system just doesn't like a hard life on the RAM. I can solve my bootloop issue at 3333 by going 2T with geardown and bankswap disabled.

Now testing 14-14-14-28-54 with 312 tRFC.

Also managed to boot 3466 for the first time at 16-16-16-36 but bootloops an issue.

I think I have weak IMC despite reasonable OC potential for a 1700.

Got it OC to 3.8, voltage set to auto - CPUID Monitor & CPU-Z show v-core @ 1.231 & 1.208 respectively, similar value in BIOS system monitor.

Ran cinebence and scored: 1223cb
Temps are 39C idle, 70C during cinebence run, everything seems stable.

All this seem about normal to everyone else? I haven'/t had a new system in over a decade so its all dutch to me haha!

I have 1147 score @3,6Ghz. And temps are about the same 40C idle & 68C load 100%. My cooler is pulling hot air from my gf card, on Be quiet Dark Rock I can only install fans vertically instead of horizontally.
