kind of meaningless post since reviewers like gamernexus tested the Windows updates and it didn't effect performance at all, hence why amd and Microsoft both said there wasn't an issue.

This update wasn't the one that added the power options to windows, it came after.

I was dead set on a VEGA specially if it was in between 1080-180ti performance with adequate price and I currently have a 1200w antec psu but this crazy power draw with just a 100mhz overclock is putting me off. I was kinda hopping a 1800-1900mhz overclock but now that seems a distance dream without turning my room temperature from the usual "oven in Sumer" into "roasting on a barbecue in hell" type of summer.

two of these in xfire with overlocks will be sucking close to a 1000w of power. When your computer draws more power than your average kitchen appliance its time to take a step back.

I first read that as 'suckling close to 1000w of power' and my head went to a very weird place....

I think its safe to say at this stage we don't know much about what is going with Vega. Vega FE is enough of an oddball that we can't reliably draw any conclusions.

Why are people so hung up on power draw? Ok I get it if you have a PSU that isn't going to cut it but if you have a PSU with adequate power, say 850w or above then why would you care? Is it the cost of power? Surely we're only talking around £20 a year - is that really a big deal? Genuine question guys - I just don't understand the issue...

Heat is the issue.

I doubt anyone's concerned about the electricity bill, It's just a bit odd that it's doing the opposite to what was expected, ie: needing more power when for Nvidia and Pascal the power requirement has dropped, At least with the 1080 which it seems this will compete with and heat as Bazzards said.

No idea why people are still chatting nonsense... The RX cards are not out yet.

Stop acting like they have... The FE cards are not the RX cards.

Bunch of silly sasuages

But they have to slate amd for there nvidia bonus.

if you took out all the nvidia crap from this thread it would be 2 pages long.

and 5 people would have 100's less posts

its pretty pathetic.

What are you expecting from the RX cards that is different from the 'non' gaming cards?

I am up to 161 hours on RTW in the last 3 and a bit weeks, if only there was real some news about Vega.

I think it is time for me to give the barbarians another pasting !!!!

That was unexpected. Well might as well try and beat cat-the-fifth

You've played 7 hours a day of RTW for the last 3 weeks.

Tiled rendering enabled, Gaming optimizations , primitive shaders used, much better AIB cooling solutions, etc

I think people are hoping for a bit much from these features - AMD has increasingly revealed they need some level of support at a per application level and that fall back paths aren't as efficient as when coded for specifically.

Tiled rendering needs driver enabling not application level. Primitive shaders needs it's own shader compiler that is not really different from any game ready drivers, as they just change out the shaders via driver.
So yeah Vega FE is pretty much works now as a higher clocked Fury as it seems basically every new Vega feature is disabled as of now, and doesn't have any game optimization in the drivers.
