So just what are we expecting to be the minimum PSU for Vega? surely in single card config a 750bronze PSU would suffice?

Why are people still messing about with the FE and treating it like a gaming card? Stupid and I wouldn't want to watch a Quadro vid being used as a gaming card. Only a couple of weeks to wait for the RX version.

Only reason is due to it being the first high end GPU release from AMD in two years. So reviewers have to get on the clickbait train...

I don't see the problem as long as people keep their realities in check - for example I expect an almost completely different set of drivers for RX Vega release.

AMD are showing off RX Vega in Budapest this afternoon, apparently you can game on it too. I hope we see some fps counters and game settings, although I won't hold my breath.

Didn't AMD say on reddit the only difference with the RX Vega launch driver is some application profiles and 1-2 minor changes?

It gives a good indication of what to expect from the cooling differences between the RX water and air.

Also there are so few leaks that we need all the scraps we can get :p

The lack of clarity is what's really confusing about this release. An AMD representative stated that the FE drivers were definitely not gimped but a few people on here believe certain elements have been turned off and will be enabled in the RX drivers.

The lack of clarity in general with Vega has been a big problem. I wouldn't be suprised if the confusion here was purely semantic, ie AMD haven't deliberately 'gimped' the driver but that's doesn't mean they haven't left out gaming optimisations that weren't quite ready.

Does anyone think there is the slightest chance that AMD are actually downplaying the gaming on the FE by switching off features that could add 20% - 30% of gaming performance? To actually turn up at Siggraph with a 1080Ti competitor???? I mean, they seem to have done a great job with Ryzen.....surely you would expect them to also be able to do it with Vega. Hope springs eternal and we will all know in a few weeks, I guess.

I would expect them to say nothing less.

I don't expect a 1080Ti competitor though, either. I just think we're looking at performance somewhere between 1080 and Ti.

It's disingenuous of AMD if they are doing that. People have been buying the FE with higher gaming expectations than 1070 / 1080 performance. AMD certainly haven't made it clear about what to expect.
For example at the launch event - Sniper Elite 4, 4K, 60 FPS, Settings Unknown

It seems unlikely they're gimping FE. I mean, there's precedent for gimping gaming card features to prevent them outshining prosumer cards, but it strikes me as unlikely they're doing the reverse.

Nope, considering how vocal they were on the performance and power consumption of Ryzen months before release the relative silence on those things with Vega is telling.

They're not switching anything off, no chance of that. But it's becoming clear the FE cards are pretty much a worst case scenario for Vega. The cooling on the blower model is poor and the GPU power draw has not been optimised at all. I don't really know what the reference RX Vega cards will be like, they may just be FEs with half the memory, but I'd expect AIB boards with better cooling and tweaked GPU voltage to be solidly faster than the 1080.

This is the first time in my history of owning GPUs that my PSU is falling short for what is essenatially 1080 performance.
There is no chance in hell that Vega isn't going to beat the 1080, think about it logically, the Fury Nano isn't that far behind the 1070 and so if Vega can't beat the 1080 with two years of progress over the Nano and >double the TDP then it has no point even existing.

Right now I am struggling to see the value of all the development costs for AMD when they might have got the same/better result with an updated Fury X sporting more memory.
