No wonder no live stream, Vega sucks.

Pretty much. Not even sure I want the Vega 56 at this point, will have to see the reviews.

It's actually worse than I thought it could be! I'm stunned by it.
Same here. How they ended up with this using 14nm, HBM2 and 12+ months and ended up with this is shocking.

Then I stand corrected, but what I do defend myself with his not using these sites as official statement like D.P said. Because these are not official statements.

It is D.P, don't take him too seriously :p

But honestly it is sad how bad AMD have done with Vega, they are so rubbish that they even had you believing those slides were fakes.

The full set of slides show they're really pushing the "experience" rather than performance. There's no performance hype which is telling.

Yea :(

AMD rekon we should be happy we have alternatives to the 1070/1080 even if they are over a year later and consume considerabley more power and priced the same. Vega is DOA.

Experience Based Performance Testing

For our RX Vega pre-briefing, AMD took an interesting turn on talking about performance metrics and comparisons to the competition. Rather than showing average frame rates in comparison the GTX 1080 or even 99th percentile frame time data that we have come to expect from the new guys helping to run the product and marketing teams, instead we are getting performance comparison based on FreeSync ranges and 99th % minimum frame rates.

The idea is this: for a gamer that buys an RX Vega they should be concerned about getting a smooth gaming experience. AMD showed data from two high-end resolutions, 3440x1440 and 4K, both with variable refresh windows based on the associated FreeSync display.

Based on this slide, AMD is telling us that the GeForce GTX 1080 has 99th % minimum frame rate in the range of 45 to 78 FPS in a range of titles including Ashes, BF1, Hitman, and more. At the same settings, the Radeon RX Vega 64 has a 99th % minimum frame rates in the range of 53 to 76 FPS. Based on AMD’s testing, the GTX 1080 dips lower in some of these games than the RX Vega 64. If you are using a display with a 48-100 Hz variable refresh rate, going below 48 FPS means you are outside the VRR range (which to be clear, is only true on FreeSync monitors, not G-Sync) and that equates to a “poor” gaming experience.

As you look at the numbers for that, AMD is pointing out that the GTX 1080 has a good experience in five of the six games, while the RX Vega 64 has a good experience in all six.

Looking at the same testing process for 4K, with a FreeSync display range of 40-60 Hz, we can again see the ranges that AMD measures.

So AMD Benchmarking is looking at a different point of view. Rather than AVG FPS they looking at the performance you should get from a Freesync Range to keep the Frame Rate smooth.

My big issue here is I only want the Watercooled Version but Price is a bit worry for me atm. Min FPS for me isn't really an issue has I the type of gamer that will happy game at High settings.

The good news for people only looking to buy now and in the near future is Fresync and the fact that Vega will have support and driver improvements for years to come. Whereas 1070/80 will likely get no more driver improvements. So if buying now, Vega may even make more sense, but if you have been waiting for over a year for Vega, it is a major let down.

Soon with Volta coming and Vega will be a joke.

Who is now skipping Vega and waiting for Navi? :D

That's assuming navi is not a new arch. Don't most of the improvements the long lasting improvements just come from all of amds stuff being gcn? So improvements form polaris trickle down to all gcn series? Even then, last update dropped restricted enhanced sync to polaris.

The performance for the price doesn't seem great for big Vega at least and the clocks aren't that high.

I wanted the water cooled version also, but no way is it worth what they are asking for it. It needed to be £499 at most.

So much for bringing 4K gaming price down, maybe Raja was talking about Navi? Lol

Question is shanks, will you be joining the nvidia guys by sliding your pants down, lubing up and getting ready to be taken from behind? Lol :D

Never haaa I be still Buying Vega, true story I already promised my little bro he can have this 290.. Was really hoping under £500 now I thinking buying the Air cooled version and hope Corsair release the HG10 or something for Vega. After make these choice when price is defo confirmed £££

Cool story bro ;):p

This is sad/disappointing for tech enthusiasts, but it's sad/pathetic for AMD. :(
+1

Everyone except maybe a handful have lost interest at this point.

So does Polaris not scale well or something? 480/580 match 1060, although at higher power cost. Would a big polaris not have caught the 1070, but at 300W like the 290? Still would have had nothing at super high end, but surely a 490 would have at least given 290 an upgrade path a year ago, while they do whatever with vega.

Does it not scale?
