Hello, I was wondering whether anyone had any stories regarding having fallen foul of an acronym/initialism or two. Not being far from 50 years old I often see acronyms I do not know and have recently made it a point to ensure I know every one I come across. Here's why.

Since my teen's I've had three main hobbies that I keep coming back too, They are gaming, Graphic Novels & Table Tennis. Due to PC Gaming I've made quite a few pledge's to projects on Kickstarter over the last 5 years and a few years back I decided to branch out and see what else I could find of interest on Kickstarter. I was immediately drawn towards Graphic Novels and I found one that was a Dead Space style novel that accompanied an upcoming PC game & one which seemed to be a light hearted story about the relationship between a man & a woman. In the latter one I came across the acronym/initialism LGBT and not knowing what it meant I filed it away as something to look up later. At that point I decided to make a pledge that got me a copy of the graphic novel to add to my collection. After that all I had to do was wait for the book to be sent from the US. Many months later I recieved a package in the mail and opened it up to find the graphic novel from the Kickstarter project. On opening it up and having a quick flick through the pages I was confronted by pictures such as one of a guy working on someone else's todger and at that point I thought I'd better go back and see what that acronym on the Kickstarter page meant and I'm sure you can imagine both mine and my familes dismay to learn that I'd been importing gay porn from America. I learnt a valuable lesson that day.

Always know your acronyms.

:D:D:D:D You cheered me up. Post of the day!

Mums are the best. My one uses "Lots Of Love" which leads to many amusing moments, my personal favourite being:

"Nitefly thanks for coming to great nan's funeral really meant a lot to me LOL xxx"

Come on, this has to be a joke :p

You can't go a week these days without a LGBT story being on the news.

You'd have to live in a pretty isolated cave not to know what it was :p

My friend who spends far too much time on the internet (says the man with 8500 OCUK posts) is always using annoying shortened words.

like: ofc instead of writing 'of course'
