Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

PASM is active suspension
Sport comes on all cars as far as i know
"Sport Plus" button is sport chrono

PASM & Sport Chrono would come with both buttons.

Mine didn't come with Sport just the PASM button, my mates Targa 997.2 came with neither the one I test drove before I bought mine had chrono and sport but no PASM button bit of a minefield lol

If the 997 is the same as the 987, then a Sport Chrono-equipped car will have the Sport button for a manual, or both Sport and Sport Plus for a PDK transmission car, and the dash clock/stopwatch on all cars.

Sport mode will give more a aggressive throttle map and increase the threshold that the stability management will kick in, and on a PDK car the gearshifts will be quicker and higher up the rev range. Sport Plus is more of them same but will hold the gears all the way to the redline - track setting only in my experience!

On mine with both Sport Chrono and PASM, pressing the Sport button will also put PASM into Sport mode.

Yep spot on AndrewP, and yes Sport Plus is really for tracking where you can have some lenience if things go wrong. Although it has to be enabled at some point to test/play with launch control. :p

I was under the impression that the Sport button is fitted to all cars as standard and the Sports Plus mode comes with the Sport Chrono Package option on the cars.

Here are a few quotes from the Porsche.com site on it.

SPORT PLUS button - On center console, affects throttle characteristics, PSM, PASM, PDCC, PSE, and PDLS (if equipped with these features), activates motorsport-derived gearshift strategy (for PDK)

The SPORT button on the center console is fitted as standard. When selected, Sport mode is activated to provide greater response and enhanced driving pleasure. Throttle response becomes even more direct, the rev-limiter is adjusted to a harder setting and engine dynamics are tuned for performance driving. The auto start/stop function is also deactivated.

With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) Transmission, the shift points are reconfigured to operate at higher engine speeds. Shift times are reduced and gearshifts become firmer and more immediate, while throttle-blip downshifts are accompanied by an emotive engine sound. Coasting mode is deactivated automatically.

...the SPORT PLUS button. When this is pressed, optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) switches to ‘Sport’ mode for harder damping and more direct steering and therefore, even more intensive road holding. The trigger threshold for PSM is raised. Agility is perceptibly enhanced when braking for corners with PSM, allowing even sportier braking and exit acceleration. For even greater dexterity, PSM can be set to standby while the car is still in SPORT PLUS mode. For safety, it is set to intervene automatically only when ABS assistance is required. ...Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is geared up for the shortest possible shift times and optimum shift points, while torque boosts during gear changes provide the maximum acceleration available. This involving experience is further enhanced by overrun downshifts and the throttle-blip function for uncompromising driving pleasure.

Don't think it is standard, looking at the cars on AutoTrader there are a number of standard 997 Carreras without any sport button.

I think that refers to the 991, don't think PDCC was available on the older generations.

You need to be a real Porsche nut to understand all the combinations available. Not simple is it?

Portiacraft have a Gen 2 997 Carrera 2 manual for £33k which looks reasonable. Shame about the horrible writing down the side though :(

Easily removed, its just a vinyl, so buy it on the basis they have it professionally removed.

Buying a 911 is not that hard

Ideally you want an S and PDK
Must haves
Sports chrono
Sports exhaust
Bose - resale is a pain without it
heated seats and parking sensors

Very nice to have and would pay more for a car with:
14 or 18 way seats
PDLS+

everything else is just a bonus.

Best place to buy a valve lift solenoid for 4/5/6 cylinders?

£400+ from Porsche.

It flagged up in a diagnostic check before a service so didn't bother with service.
However do you think changing the oil might affect the problem as it's oil driven so different grade might help? 5/30 i think to 0/30?

Which one, the one fitted at the top of the engine or the one fitted to the underneath side?

I've just replaced the ones on our car and the parts were £83 and £107 (ex Vat) plus a couple of hours labour for the diagnostics and fitting. No idea if that was a good price or not.
