google employee's internal diversity memo goes viral

So why is it ok for them to use it but anyone else you get a world wide lynch mob and/or banned from forums. I've seen forums strike the ban hammer on members for using queer.

I don't understand the obsession with announcing your sexual orientation and the use of pronouns..

I think we should all start wearing our badge of honour. Straight - He/Him. It's such bad attitude, takes us back to the stone age.

If everyone started doing that with the Straight - He/Him stuff then this phase would probably die a quick death as then it wouldn't be seen as empowering or special to announce your sexual preference and gender.

Maybe if the media died this would never be a problem. The biggest driver is the media outlets. Why do we even need news channels, papers and all the gossip/trivial crap? All it ever does is creates lies, hatred and division for society.

Saying that the days before 24 hour news *seemed* to be a better time.

Undoubtedly but I can't see the media dying off anytime soon, if anything it will get stronger with the onset of fake news and soon the ability to put voice to a video and the authenticity being indistinguishable.

I think you're being nice, i think we would get it in the neck.

Best way to deal with this kind of nonsense really. Use it as a source of comedy :D

Yeah, if you don't have the ability to take the mick out of someone who's being unreasonable, you've don't have anything left..

Like, being nice as in presuming it would just die away, i think we would be attacked, just like James Damore has been attacked for presenting a quite reasonable debate to the table. I don't know, obviously, who know's at the end of the day, like you said earlier, people in the centre don't even know what's happening, we're all just confused pumpkins...:p

Think he handled himself pretty well, considering he is no doubt new to dealing with the media and talking to an audience. I especially like his response to the last question, seemed very reasonable and answered well, despite the lady's loaded question.

I think the overall effects of this will be positive for him, no doubt will be in a much better job within a few months judging by the offers he has received.

Not really, they are and have changed (for "better" and "worse") based on a variety of factors - societal norms changing, advocacy and guidance being just three of the myriad of reasons.

What's interesting about this is it has brought it to the forefront of things, which I guess is the main reason he wrote it, even if the exposure was bigger than anticipated. It's lead to some interesting discussion and will hopefully educate both sides (I've certainly learned a lot) to the issues, whether his points were right or wrong (seemingly it's a bit of a mix).

really id say the exact oposite happened.

it wuite clearly proved that speaking about anything like this will cost you your job.

so discussion of the issue will be dropped and one side censored under threat of unemployment
