It was because she used blood magic by killing her child to save Drogo, and all it did in the end was cause him to be a dribbling mess. It cursed her.
That's sort of what I mean, the blood magic killed her child so that Drogo could 'live'. But there didn't seem to be anything else particularly conclusive to say she can't have children. Other than maybe she feels cursed.

When they say barren in the books I kinda assumed periodless. she just doesn't work down there in a reproductive sense. would explain why she thinks she cant have children.

edit. googled a bit and does seem she has a miscarriage later in the books.

So my wild and daft theory which runs off the back of Bran being the Night King.

The Children of the Forest made the Night King (which happens to be Bran when he gets stuck warging!) and he's stuck several thousand years in the past knowing of current day events and just waits it out. The show happens exactly as it has so far with the Starks getting royally shafted at every turn and Bran/Night King just waits.

He knows that everyone thinks he's a threat and that they'll send 7 idiots to trying and capture a wight and he waits for them. He takes down the dragon and turns it as in the show and now he has just what he needs to bypass the wall.

At some point The Night King communicates with Jon Snow actually revealing himself to be an ally and here for revenge on all those who wronged the Starks!

No idea about how it would actually work out but a revenge story 8000+ years in the making? Worth a punt! I've seen crazier theories! :D

That's pretty far fetched, but I think you're on to something with Bran being the night king but I'm not sure how they'll explain his second conscience i.e. he's the night king AND a time traveller trapped in a teenage body.

Good episode if a little predictable in places. Hoping for a lovely Brotherly reunion next week with The Hound and Zombie Mountain :D

well it is an elaborate idea it seems pretty implausible, I mean if true, he tried and nearly killed himself with an undead army and did kill several companions

also on the first iteration, if it was bran originally, then the night king didn't exist and there was no undead army or reason for a dragon to go north (remember it is possible for them to change the past!)

I think this has just come from the fact that they both have that sight ability, they're greenseers or whatever... this isn't something unique given that Brans companion on the trip north, Jojen Reed had the ability too and also the Wildling woman was aware of it implying there are others (plus we've seen a willing with the ability to Warg too).

Re Longclaw, it got covered in that link I posted with the director a couple of pages back where he was talking about how GRRM told him back in Season 1 that Jon and Daenerys converging was basically the whole point of ASOIAF - he had no idea where people got the idea eyelid idea from. Purely a camera thing.

OMG its a fantasy TV show. based on a book. You cant have things precisely as it appears in a book its just not practical.

Adding to this do you really wanna watch them walking for 3 days to where ever they are going? I know I would find that a little tedious. We are all big boys and girls now, we surely understand oh they travelled to their destinatoin now lets see what happens.
Seriously!
Personally, I love it and am fascinated with the story.
So grab yourselves a beer kick back and ENJOY IT!
Or don't watch it :D:D

It's extremely far fetched but it's dumb enough to work! If it's the case it's likely in a similar style to Back to the Future and this is the first time we are seeing the storyline. Obviously an awful writing style and full of plot holes and paradox's but I'll go for it :p

This is quite interesting and clears up a lot of the perceived silliness with the whole dead army being stopped by a bit of melted ice/why the WW couldnt just kill Jon and co with hypersonic/hyperaccurate spears.

if that is true about the ambush [must admit i can't recall and to me the pics aren't really conclusive ~ i'll have another look on a big monitor at home] then that is a pretty good touch but one i think should have been made clearer by having, say, a more prominent landmark so it would have been more obvious to casual viewers. not sure about the rest, but even if all the ambush stuff is correct we're still left w/ the timejumping stuff that is jarring.

I was saying that to my friend while watching the episode... "WTF she could end the whole thing now, take them all out!" then again if she'd attempted that then maybe it would have been her dragon getting shot down.
did she even know the King was there? i'm assuming the raven just said something like Jon was trapped by a horde and needed rescuing. whether or not she should have tried taking him out once the threat was know is debateable, but having just lost one child that massive shock probably would have put her into the mode of protecting her other children at all costs and reassessing later.

This is how I would change episodes 5 and 6

Episode 5

Jon Snow stands by the cliffs and instead of Drogon it would be Rhaegal that lands in front of him to smell him and get petted. This would be much scarier for Jon as there is no dragon rider on Rhaegal and Jon would think hes about to be eaten as this threat is probably not there with Drogon as Daenerys is riding him and she has control of him. While Jon is petting him Drogon returns with Daenerys and hovers close by where Daenerys can see what is happening

Episode 6

Rhaegal Comes back to rescue Jon. Rhaegal dodges javelin, Jon rides Rhaegal, connection is made.

Dunno about NK communicating with the da king in da norf, but you're on target with how I see things on your other comments. "You will never walk again, but you will fly" - Guess who has an undead dragon as his PET? Bran was warned about the consequences of time travel and somehow became connected or stuck with the NK and now has to go through the motions of playing things out as he knows everything that will happen. He's in no rush to reach the wall.

Also Mountain vs Hound! YES!
