Who here owns a Subaru?

I dred a engine rebuild... more so as ill hate having to leave my car somewhere for 6 or so weeks thinking the body/paintwork will be getting ruined lol.

I take it you don't have any blue/white smoke from the exhaust? If the misfire is intermittent and can not show itself for weeks at a time I'd be looking more at an electrical fault than a mechanical fault.

Still, a compression test is never a bad idea.

No smoke from what I can see.

The misfire this time is different to last time. Last time it would have a slightly rough idle but disappear as soon as the car was moving.

This time it's a proper misfire that is still apparent when driving/moving. The only think that makes me *hope* it's not terminal is that it does go when the revs pick up. EML also goes off too.

It was replaced for new when I first bought the car however I don't know whether it was genuine or not.

It really could be a multitude of things. I'm trying to stay upbeat at the moment, easy for something like this to get you down.

Keep smiling :D

Well, looks like the car is off to the garage.

Injectors 2 and 4 were ultrasonically cleaned this afternoon. Put it all back together with 2 and 4 swapped over and just started her up. Misfire still present and no improvement.

I dare say next step for them will be a compression test. I'm not 100% but I'd say it's likely they will want to remove and break down the engine depending on the compression test results.

Id like to think I'd get a phone call and be told 'ah, it's skipped a tooth Mr W but don't worry there was no damage done and we and re-timed it and all is well'... but I don't think my luck is all that :D

Bad times :(
should have gone for the 2.0L they are bullet proof and never fail like the 2.5L ;)

I'm thinking about getting a legacy B spec with the 3.0l straight 6 some time in the next few months (If I can find a good one at the right price anyway). Any thoughts?

I know they drink fuel and tax is £500 on the 06+ models. Anything else I should be aware of? I think they are regarded as very reliable cars as long as serviced?

This isn't smoking at all, which I think is a good thing?

Yeah, definitely. Which is why I think it's sensor/electrical related. I'm guilty of thinking the worst too, so you're not alone :D

I had a misfire and rough running/hesitation when the lambda failed on my WRX. Eventually started throwing a few codes too, can't remember if any of them were cylinder misfires though.

We shall see I suppose.

A friend is bringing me his compression tester tomorrow for if I want to check that too. Probably needs a leakdown test as well but that will have to wait for the garage on Tuesday, if they decide to do that.

I'll be more in the picture when I drop it off so that I know what they want to look for :)

Ya knows when you are out and pressing the loud pedal hard and the car literally starts screaming at you after a certain high speed, does this mean my pads are crying to be changed?

As in i best do them before i next take it out kind of crying? Or could it be something else?

Was quite loud, especially when i can hear it over the exhaust.

That doesn't make much sense :D

Do you mean your pads are squealing? Have you checked the pads to see how much meat is left on them?

Thats what it sounded like, a high pitch scream. Had to stop and get out to make sure a granny wasn't stuck in my grill.

Went back to certain high speed and it did it again. The brakes are low, i have got some new ones but just havent bothered to fit them yet. Heard brakes make a noise before but not this loud and only make a noise at a certain speed.

Suppose my only option is to change them now and see if it still does it then come back and ask again.

Just hope its nowt to do we the gearbox after what Andy was going on about at the last meet.

Brakes will only really make a noise if they're low when you use them. If you don't press the pedal, they aren't in contact with the discs.

Gearbox would more than likely make a whining noise and would be there constantly. Why, what did I say? :D DCCD boxes are weaker than non-DCCD boxes but you won't kill it by driving fast unless you're completely ham fisted... And you aren't that bad haha

Any chance of a video?

Ill have a look at the dash cam later and upload if its there.

Im going either pads or something to do with the new rad thats not been popped back on properly so its making a wind noise.

Good point about the rad. If it's not seated correctly, there may be a gap where air can rush through and cause a noise.

Still, not sure how you can refit a radiator so badly to make that happen.
