Sure it's not easy but there are plenty of ways to make a start. The problem is that parents have subcontracted their parenting responsibility to the schools and to the internet.

Anything for a quiet life.

Personally I apply conditions for access to all of their stuff. They know that what they have is not theirs. It is mine as I paid for it and I allow access to it. Access that can be revoked for failure to behave etc. You have to start young though, bringing it in at teen years is too late.

I'm also a lot more net savvy than most parents so I have an advantage but it is a parent's own problem if they are too ignorant to at least even keep up with what kids are doing.

Just showing kids that you are vigilant, that you do occasionally keep tabs on them is enough.

I sometimes wonder how we got to all this mess. Some want a hanging, some want to be part of the mob to lynch others, some just want to point fingers, some no tolerance whatsoever, some are always on a crusade like J.K. Rowling, some just want to fling names that you're left wing/right wing. It is never ending but at the same time, no one wants to or can find common ground.

he said the N word, and it was as an insult!
he could have said anything else, say the C word, nobody cares, but the N word - use some sense man.

you say this on tv, your career is over, you say this in a newspaper, your career is over, you say this in parliament, your career is over, you say this as a public figure off the record and someone records you and leaks it - your career is over.
And yet there are so many people defending this guy, i find it really odd - he should be punished just for his stupidity!

It is really odd.

One group of people have a different opinion than the others. Most likely older people vs people that have grown up "online" flippantly using language the older generations consider taboo.

I think the internet will probably go with some kind of mandatory registration soon, China style. Efour will directly be linked to my social security number and ill be traceable. That way anything i said online id be accountable for directly. Net anonymity will be a relic. Terresa May police state internet for everyone.

And some people want to throw around racist epithets like it's nothing, right? I note that you don't include that in your list of problems with the interweb.
 
Personally I don't think he seems like a nicer person in general. Like, would I trust him with a personal and highly important task or piece of information? No based on how he presents himself, especially as a so called professional making money off gaming. I've come across complete strangers who within a couple of minutes you just know they would be totally dependable people with anything you give them.

I think I am generally a very good judge of character, and nothing about his character screams of anything really good to me.

Someone should have told him to keep his inside voice on the inside.

Well everything is nearly classed as racist these days. You don't agree to something of the trend and you're a racist. If it isn't that you're a fascist/hitler lover that reads The Daily Mail. Which comes back to the lynch mob. Judge, jury and executioner.
Some are good at it on this board as many others which seems to be the nature of the Internet these days.

I've never watched any of his videos. I still know very little of him apart from he has 50 million followers. I never knew of him until the thread happened the last time.

What I've never understood of the Internet these days if said person doesn't like someone why stalk them? That seems to be another problem. People watching every move they make so they can gripe about it.
 
I think it's quite funny in truth. There's no sanctity over this word. Those of black origin like to claim only they are allowed to use it, and will go about doing so in any number of settings which you could deem inappropriate.

But here we have a guy playing a video game by himself, cursing at something on screen, which has no bearing on race whatsoever, and we're getting upset because of his choice of word?

It's so far removed from any racist context, it's silly.

Me and the nipper watched one try not to laugh video. Not very authentic human being "tries not to laugh" interspersed with occasional 'edgy' and valueless swearing (at which point I cut it off).

Yeah he has a lot of views in the same way limp bizkit sold more records than rage against the machine, utter garbage!

i'm sure this has already been said but hey ho.... we are long past due...internet broadcasting standards similar to tv broadcasting standards. Stricter regulation of the internet is coming....

Anyway Pewdiepie is a racist scumbag.. If any other tv entertainer (viewed by millions) said that they would lose their job in a heartbeat.
