***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Has anyone bought the Lepin Star Wars sets? I wouldn't mind getting the Super Star Destroyer assuming it's still available. Lepin costs a lot less than Lego but not sure about quality.

Also, I'm assuming Ali is the go to site?

General consensus is it's cheap for a reason. Quality control isn't present; you might be fine, you might get a load of pieces that don't snap together. You're rolling the dice.

I'd disagree with that, I've just completed a couple of modular building sets and both were great quality wise with no missing parts, other than the missing lego logos it was almost impossible to tell the difference for the majority of pieces.

Also built a lepin technic 911 and whilst it was VERY good for the price i'd say that wasn't on par to the quality of official technic lego.

I've purchased a few of the retired UCS sets from Lepin, and I've never had any issues with parts fitting, missing parts yes, but easily replaced from brick link etc... or even ebay. Lepin have no boxes and the instructions are more crammed per step in each page to cut down on paper and costs, but overall they do build just fine.

For the price, they are very good, not as good as Lego but then again, you are paying a heck of a lot less.

Interesting that people have different experiences with the Lepin stuff but to be expected I guess.

Main reason is that I like the look for the SSD but no way would I pay over £1k for the Lego version.

Being a bit thick here but I assume it's simply a case of finding a seller with good rating and going from there.

Is it a straight conversion from $ to £ + the exchange fee? Any hidden costs?

Lepin is fine for retired sets IMO. As you say 1K for a SSD UCS set is crazy when you can get it for £100 or so from Lepin. I can't link as not sure if I can. But search Lepin - ali express and you should find a great place to buy Lepin sets, a store called H & H is where I get mine, and never had an issue.

Most included DHL or express shipping in the price. Custom Fees might be appilcable, but touch wood not had too much trouble with the sets I've had imported. Delivery is around 10 - 14 days - sometimes under 10.

Anyone got the Lepin Ewok village? Is it as good as the proper one?
My partner always wanted it, and she never got it. So am tempted to get the Lepin version for her birthday. She wants to actually play with the set with the kids, so if pieces go missing im not too fussed when its that price.

Up until now ive been completely against Lepin and haven't wanted to go near it. Due to being a purist!

Thanks for that, just checked it out. So even with the exchange fee it still works out to be a lot cheaper.

You cant really disagree by posting your own personal experience. You guys have been fine, lots of people on r/Lego have been fine, lots on pistonheads have been fine. I've also seen lots of people with issues. Colour mismatch, not snapping, missing pieces.

I think my original post was pretty clear on it being random. That's quality control.

To be fair, you are right in what you say, its a lottery. I've been fine with the retired sets I've had from Lepin that Lego no longer supply. When I say I've had no issues with parts fitting, they all fit fine, but that is becsause they all fit but I've had a few parts work apart so had to use methods to keep it together, glue for example, but that is not common.

Generally its a cheaper way to buy a retired set. I'd always if I can afford to buy a retired set via ebay amazon etc buy lego, and current sets 100% lego but overpriced retired sets, sadly Lepin is an alternative.

Just ordered the Lepin ewok village for my partner.
Hopefully no problems, ordered it for $69. Come out at around the £65 i imagine with fees etc..

Should be with you in around 10 days, good luck hope your partner enjoys building it. The ewok village is a nice set. I too never got one when they were out. You might not get a box, and if the kids are to play with it, for the price I'd say its ok.

Just noticed that there's a few h&h sellers - take it's simply the plain one and not the one with 'block' in the name?

that is the problem. Once you get your ewok set you'll see that minus a few small issues which for the price you can forgive, you'll be tempted to get a few more, and as the bricks and parts all interconnect with genuine Lego, any missing parts just find via brick link or ebay.

I'll still get the £650 Falcon as I do like genuine Lego sets, but I'll get mine next year and just hope its not sold out - doubt it.

I really don't think you'll have any issues at all long term. Stock issues for this kit will likely exist up to December this year and then level out after Christmas. It's a flagship kit so will be around for 2-3 years I expect. It's not limited edition like the original.
