It's the choice of weapons, the quantity of them, and the quantity of ammo that the guy had that they should be worried about. I don't understand the necessity to have mass-murder machines available to the public. Guns are required, apparently, in America for hunting and self-defence. I don't understand how any of what this guy had fell into either of those categories.

The way Trump deals with these issues is laughable. It's just typical of him to give such a shoddy response. The whole of America isn't looking to Twitter to see what their president thinks.

You also have to taken in count, that the muzzle will still be hot and possible on fire/smoke after firing so many rounds he's emptying.

There is also the fact and reality that you don't get a muzzle flash every time you pull the trigger, when I shot an m16 in texas it only caused a muzzle flash once out of 10 fairly rapid shots (see video for proof)

Seems like he lost his pilots licence in 2008 as he never passed the mental tests. Only in America can that person then be allowed to keep his guns and go buy more.

apart from in the UK where the police ignored MULTIPLE warning about Hamilton from the public and their own officers [at least one of whom he threated w/ a gun] and allowed him to keep weapons from years despite not being a member of a club because all the civvies banned him? that sort of "only in America"?

What absolute tosh. As someone whom has been a member of this countrys armed forces and due to this have fired a wide variety of platforms i can assure you that you will not consistently get muzzle flashes. Firearms, especially rifles have for a long time been designed to eliminate as many of them as possible by means of chokes/better gas regulation systems.

Please do some research into topics you don't know about before talking out of your ****.

Having seen the video again I now think it is likely at least one of the guns was an AR with a drum mag and a gat crank, which is a little device that goes in the trigger gaurd to make a semi auto fire faster. It gives a slower rate of fire than a proper full auto and if you listen carefully the rate of fire is slightly inconsistent, which is him being slightly inconsistent with cranking the handle.

pretty hard to tell... there are also echoes off nearby buildings - there does seem to be some speculation in news reports of these gat crank things or bump stocks (absolutely no idea about them tbh.. they seem to be weird devices American civilians use to bypass gun laws)

I swear that some of the clips with the long bursts of fire sounded like a machine gun... though so far all reports seem to just mention automatic rifles etc.. no mention of a belt fed machine gun at all

i can't see metal detectors being an answer, as the issue wasn't someone wandering around w/ weapons, it was a guy taking a bunch up to his room, therefore i don't see a need for hotels to start installing metal detectors, just x-raying bags over a certain size.

Venezuela banned private gun ownership in 2012, fast forward to this year people are dying in the streets at the hands of their socialist government.

We should be more worried about the recent explosion in acid attacks and terrorism in London rather than a single incident called the worst incident in US history at the hands of a single nutter.

The number of guns in his hotel room yesterday was 8 and the number in his house was 19 plus explosives. However I thought I just heard on the radio that there were 40 guns in his hotel room?!?!?

Anyone else heard this. I mean what the actual ****. I guess a lot of these were hand guns but there must be plenty CCTV of him going back and forward bringing these into the hotel.

EDIT - 23 seemed to have been in the hotel and with the 19 at home making over 40.

In the great scheme of things, This sort of event is actually astonishingly rare.

There is an adage that states "Hard cases cause bad law". The meaning of which is that one should not create new laws, especially ones that might adversely affect hundreds of millions of people, in response to rare and isolated tragedies.

The 7/7 bombings caused casualties similar to this mass killing (Both deaths and injured).

The bombs used were made of flour and hair dye (Basically)

Of course a US mass killer will favour firearms because of their ready availability. But anybody suitable motivated can find equally destructive alternatives if S/He really wants too.

The case for stronger firearms control in response to this is slightly stronger than the idea of the UK introducing controls on Food and Hair dye in response to 7/7, but not much stronger.

As in the UK with firearms, The main message isn't so much more laws but rather better enforcement of the laws that already exist.

They're not rare and isolated. So far this year alone there have been nearly 300 mass shootings in the states.
