The most in awe thing about this movie, besides that it is great, it is how it didn't let the original down.
You know how we watch a sequel to a classic these days, there are always disappointments, we don't get many Aliens to Alien, no Terminator 2 to Terminator and it's all Matrix Reloaded to The Matrix, Speed 2. You almost get to a point where you give up but then this turns up. It almost make you want to believe again that there are GOOD movie makers out there making GOOD movies, not just movies to make money, they are doing it for the art, they took control and make a film for its idea that it set up, takes its time to go through and deep philosophical idea of what it means being human, the greater idea of soul and humanity. I am glad to see that the studio gave him the chance to do that, unlike the original BR where they did some stupid cuts and voice over.
Anyway, I am in awe on how DV took the original movie, not only didn't let it down, it expanded it and did it in a natural way. One of the thing that really struck me that he did this was like the duke box with the hologram Sinatra. That is totally what would it could look like if they put a hologram in one of those and keep the retro look. It was perfect.
Then there is the score, it has a similar feel and every now and then a massive wave comes over like the grandeur of the scale of the visual which really hits you. An hour into the film I am there thankful that this is just brilliant.
Well done DV, well done.
