Gran Turismo "Sport"

What's it like compared to forza 7, I sold my ps4 because i got fed up with waiting for decent driving game.

If game really good may purchase ps4 for this game, I did enjoy older games.

Single player any good? I take it got full day and night with weather like forza 7? Decent selection of cars and tracks?

Also announced any dlc or update plans?

  • I tried the Forza 7 demo on my PC and found the G29 and wheel controls to be utter junk. Forza didn't feel like a sim racer at all to me. It's definitely moved more toward being an arcade racer these days. GTS on the other hand felt very natural behind the wheel, the FFB feels spot on.
  • It has set times of day for races, I don't think there are any weather conditions on it at all (I may be mistaken)
  • As for Single player, theres an arcade mode and a series of challenges for you to do, although there is no "campaign" mode as such, there is still plenty of content
  • DLC, all updates for tracks and cars will be FREE!

Yeah forza really designed for pad, I don't know anyone using a wheel.

Shame no weather, what's online lobby system like? Same as forza, restricted to a specific car class? E.g classic American which include 20 cars. You can only tune within rules, max bhp and tyres,

Shame about single players, they always had good single player system.

good news about free cars and tracks.

Had a quick blast last night and I'm really enjoying this but I think it's time for a new controller. My R2 trigger was on it's way out and GT really highlights this. I could change the button layout but feel comfortable using the triggers.

I just bought some triggers off Amazon, watched a guide on Youtube and replaced the trigger and spring. It was actually really easy to do.

There are two kinds of online lobbies really. There's the Sports mode, which is the main mode for online play. This is arranged and organised events by Polyphony/Sony, they run at set times throughout the day/evening. They have set rules and car classes for each race, you enter into an event, put in a qualifying time then get matched to similar racers around your lap times and driver rating. If you bash people you get a bad rating, if you drive off the track you get a bad rating. So if you're a good driver, your rating goes up, bad it goes down. That way people who just smash into other people all get bunched together to let the serious players race.

The other mode is online lobbies created by yourself or other people. They let you setup and choose race classes, tracks, cars etc. There are many options for creating your own lobby to get just what you are looking for.

Never thought about that to be honest, just picked up some triggers off Amazon, cheers.

So game has limited single player or full arcade mode where you can set up races using any car any track combination? There isn't any career mode where you build up credits to buy additional cars up upgrades?

You get rewards for licence tests, challenges and arcade races. The rewards are credits, mileage and level and each time these level up you can get other bonuses from the looks of things. Its nothing like the GT's of old in that respect. I used to like taking an old second hand Subaru Impreza estate and slowly tuning it up and stuff. Lol

I'm really enjoying it because I'm not treating it like the old GT. The only remnants are the menus, photo's now renamed to scapes, 'licence' tests and so on. But I'm treating it like a console-alternative to iRacing when it comes to the competitive racing. The old GT idea of taking a slow car and making it fast(er), is still sort of there, as you can lighten or upgrade the power of cars but in a much more simplified fashion in the car settings menu. The customisation is good too, with the livery editor (IMO) easily being on par for usability with that of Forza.

So far, both my online races had a mixture of the crashers, those who were starting to lose out and wanted to drive you off the track, and those who wanted to race clean. The ghosting system worked well.

I'm actually enjoying it so much - something a few weeks back I did not expect to do at all - that I've pre-ordered the Steelbook version. :D

Not sure if the game will have enough then to keep me interested for long. I'm not much of an online gamer nowadays. Getting to the stage where a single player game session is all I need ...

I know what you mean. I can't say i wasn't dissapointed when i saw the absence of a proper career mode. :( And evwen more dissapointed that i read that they werent working on a true 7/8 and that all development by the team will be on DLS for Sport. :( :( Still, we could be surprised at a later date i guess??? :)

Their next game will probably be a PS5 release, and if they keep this direction, Sport 2 rather than GT7.

Anyone getting Digital download version of full game? I'm currently on pre-order for the collectors edition but swaying towards doing all digital downloads (will take the console to a friends to download big stuff) on my new PS4 Pro.

Anyone know when digital download starts? assuming it'll let you download it in advance of the release day!?

Mine says "Expected to auto-download 16/10/2017" I've preordered the Digital Deluxe version.

This is a lot better than it sounds - tried the demo last night, and was on the fence about buying it (with it not being a traditional GT), but having played a couple of the online events last night was pleasantly surprised. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but the events being "live" at set times, and putting in a qualifying lap to get matched with players of similar skill makes a huge difference to the experience.

Can see it working well from an esports side of things if they run e.g. championship races at set times of day.

Ref the lack of career mode - I honestly think that's something that may get added in later. With the current reduced amount of cars and tracks, it would be difficult to offer a career mode with enough variety, but that should be addressed over time.
