Hurricane Ophelia to Brush the Azores This Weekend; May Affect Ireland Next Week

I work for a company based in Dublin, so far not had any response from anyone this morning so unsure if everyone is just on lockdown!

Most companies have told their workers not to come in, facebook etc all closed.
Emails sent to staff reading 'up to you' if you want to come in.
All govt building are closed for business.

In the North here many banks now shutting down at lunchtime, several govt depts. doing the same, think they have reacted as the morning progressed.
We left at 1.
Sky was a black red earlier with zero wind, then the brightest day of sun as the wind started to pick up.
Just starting to get dark again, I think it'll hit soon, watching birds fly in the gusts is hilarious at the mo.

Im living on the west or Ireland. Getting very windy now and trees are starting to get damage and some are coming down, one woman in Waterford killed by tree falling on her car. Part of a school gym roof has come off and landed in someone's garden in Cork. We also have multiply power lines down.

Also dont forget the stupid people who think its great crack to put the emergency services in danger as well

Our factory shut and people told to go home at 11am this morning.

Had a message from the MD saying he sent everyone home and now it is blazing sunshine! haha.

I understand it is due to hit shortly. Fairplay to everyone thinking about the safety of staff first...I know at my last job we would have still been expected to work!

Have to say it is good to see some taking it seriously rather than the often complacency - while its likely not going to be too extreme relatively speaking hurricane wise - it was an almost unprecedented setup with the potential to be unpredictable and while unlikely could have turned out very nasty.

I work for an IT company in Belfast and we were told to go home and work there. Doesn't seem too bad at the moment.

we just had a message from Totalmobile who we use, that they are closing down today and sending staff home just in case..they are belfast based as well
