Heads up, I can vouch for the Belkin BoostUP wireless charger. Even though the iPhone 8 is restricted to 7.5w, it's still damn fast for wireless. Feels good and works great.

I use https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Charger-PrimAcc-Charging-Standard-Black/dp/B01N0XZDMD alongside one of the Anker 18w chargers (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charger-Anker-PowerPort-Galaxy-Google-Black/dp/B017VXARME) and it's bloody quick!

Charges perfectly fine through my Rhinoshield Playproof as well.

Any reasons to choose the 8 over the X? Apart from it’s available :D

Only if you don't like the notched screen and/or don't want to wait for apps to be updated to properly support the new resolution/aspect ratio, I guess. Oh, and if you prefer having a fingerprint sensor rather than FaceID which I do. I occasionally unlock my phone while it's just laid on my desk in some situations where I can't be bothered to pick it up. I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to do that with FaceID.

I’m just being impatient as I’m due an upgrade. I don’t think the notch will bother me. FaceID appeals to me but I see your point about not having to pick it up to unlock.

Just picked up a iPhone 8 Plus in Space Grey and I am quite impressed with it, it’s a noticeable speed increase from my 6S. I was going to wait for the iPhone X but I’m not sure on the FaceID and the rumoured hard to get hold of availability so I nabbed a 8 for the moment.

How can I stop is autocorrecting to I.S?

I don’t want to turn auto correct off but just edit that one word? Seems weird that is auto changes to I.S.

Anyone else getting slow down and the home page (locked) disappearing on them? Wondering whether all my issues are hardware-related now seeing as no ios updates are making it better. Perhaps I'm just a little unlucky and need an exchange.

Well, I've got both a Galaxy S8+ and an iPhone 8 Plus and I know my S8+ (and indeed any other decent Android device) is capable of doing more than the iPhone, but I just don't care. I simply prefer using iOS and since my only other iOS device was a knackered iPhone 6 Plus and I don't fancy the X, the 8 Plus was the logical choice for me. Well, aside from a 7 Plus, but it was only £30 difference between a 7 Plus and 8 Plus anyway so seemed a no-brainer. I suppose I could've saved more cash by buying a used 6S Plus or 7 but I wasn't too fussed.

It's weird, I know Android can do more, but it just doesn't matter one jot to me. Reminds me though, need to get my S8+ up for sale since it's just sitting in its box now and I forgot about it :) No surprise about the iPhone 8 sales potentially not being that great though but it is all speculation at this point since they're unlikely to talk figures. It's obvious that most people will be waiting for the X though, so they've sort of shot themselves in the foot there.

These links provides for an interesting read for anyone considering buying the new iPhone 8. If true, then as an owner of both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7 I feel I can be doubly smug.

The articles speculate that people are waiting for the iPhone X. If true, Apple are going to need an even bigger pool for all of their money. As an APPL stockholder, this pleases me no end. :D

It's odd how people are so different in their preferences. Most of the time I let the wife use my iPhone 7 as I've just never really got to grips with iOS (opposite to yourself), even though I used iOS before I ever used Android. It was one of the reasons I sold my iPad, the whole ecosystem just seemed to 'irk' me. I do wonder if Apple simply kept the current iPhone design due to limitations with getting enough displays for the X?

It's possible that they did that knowing that there will be significantly less X models around. It's all a bit of an experiment for them at the moment though since they didn't know how people would react to the X's changes so I think they just pushed the 8 out without changing the design as a safe bet. It's also entirely possible that the 8/8 Plus are actually selling alright but that they just have a lot more stock this time around.

Much as I like my 8 Plus and iOS, there's no doubt that the design feels somewhat dated now. After all, when it's in a case it doesn't physically look or feel any different than the 6 Plus I had back in 2014. Here's hoping next year's devices will be a bit beyond the experimental phase and that all devices will be freshened up. After all, they can't use the same design for a 5th time in a row...can they? ;)

But why not, the design works, what do you actually want them to change? I certainly don't like the loss of the headphone jack since iPhone 7 or the missing home button on the X. The way the phone feels is great, so it's a bit of a shame that the market is constantly demanding change, when actually the best changes they (/any phone company) could make is to get us back to 5 day battery life like we used to have in the old Blackberry days before touchscreens, full waterproofness and shatterproof screens so we don't have to use cases anymore.

It works, and since I own an 8 Plus I don't have any real beef with the design itself as such. It's just that when moving from a 2014 phone to a 2017 phone, I'd have liked it to at least look and feel different, to feel like a more substantial upgrade than it really is. I'm not sure what improvements I'd want them to make - I personally don't think the X is quite there yet, but time will tell on that one.

Definitely agree that battery life and durability would be the best improvements we could have. Battery life is getting a little better these days but that's one area where I'd definitely always like more.

I'm in Texas on Saturday and looking at the prices over there the 8 Plus 256Gb is £778 including sales tax, and I can get £420 for my current iPhone 7 Plus 256Gb so it will cost £358 to upgrade. But what am I getting for that money? It would seem like merely a better camera if I were going from a 6 or 6S the upgrade would be more compelling....

after laughing at the 8 for a few weeks, i ended getting one.. wtf? to be honest i am on the 6 since launch day and the battery isn't what it use to be. did take a lot of convincing to get it over the 7 to be honest. if i manage to keep the 8 for 3 years i wouldn't be too bad of an investment i guess

I note in the press that Apple stock is down 3% today on rumours of weak iPhone 8 sales with reports production of the 8/8 plus has been cut for the next two months in order to sell unsold stock. The reports say there could be two scenarios to this - either people are waiting to get the X or that consumers appetite for these so called yearly upgrades is starting to wane.

I suspect a lot of people will want the X or wait another year for the X design to be more easily obtainable, especially if this is to be the mainstream design next year.

I don't know why some people (inc Apple) are surprised by the lack of iPhone 8 sales.

Tons of people waiting for the X I reckon. They're advertising the poop out if it, hoping to get record opening weekend sales I imagine.

When's the last time they announced a phone more than 2 weeks before you could buy it?

The X will have had nearly 7 weeks of promotions and people talking about it before it goes on sale.

But no stock so no record sales :p
