Hearts of Iron 4

maybe this has been posted but has the new patch made the game worth playing (a challenge?) ... stopped playing like shortly about I bought it because it was just too easy.

It is vastly improved. But it's a long way from being the polished game one would expect. The HPP mod for HOI III is still a far superior product.

I still can't prevent my game from crashing. I'm going to see if that read only trick works.

Just a heads up. Together for Victory DLC is released tomorrow. It includes commonwealth improvements, new focus trees, new graphics and new sounds. But more importantly in my opinion, it includes the free patch. This apparently deals with a lot of the outstanding AI issues, so I am looking forward to it. It also features a more realistic lend-lease which enables lend lease requests for minor nations. So those tiny little satellites can now get fighters/bombers from their larger hosts. Should make it very interesting.

anyone got the together for victory/
i dont get how to break british raj away from uk. i don't see what affecs the numbers, other than what it specifically tells you how much trade you have with uk which you dont have control off and don't help in any war, but neither do i want to wait til the 50s as it extremely slowly counts down.
cant see any videos on youtube or any help elsewhere atm.

I'm trying to work out the autonomy business too. I'm just running through as Germany and whilst it is fun it's not historical at all. Italy are epic. They've annexed Yugoslavia and Greece all by themselves. They've also garrisoned hundreds of divisions along their coast lines, which is new in the patch. Do you have the beta patch hotfix by the way? This is what I'm running, and I can see a lot of differences. It's more of a challenge now. Far more divisions but far less expeditionary forces, which as Germany, is a pain when trying to annex Soviet Union. I am missing those 100 foreign divisions. But it also introduces more bugs

This autonomy business isn't easy to work out. It says that you need to offer them lend lease in order for their levels to raise and lower, and warscore is also influential. But I can't understand it, as it doesn't seem to work for me. Spearhead is a really nice command by the way.

yeah, at east as British raj, defending my boarders on its own strengtherns my ties to uk, and if i attack anything it massievly increases my ties.
1942 and i still got 72 points to go to drop out of a colony.

can only see wyas of increasing ties to uk, rather than break fast, although i didn't no about land lease, but i would have thought if i lease land to the uk that would increase my ties and they wont give me any land.

edit - just seen you said lend not land.

There is a tool-tip that tells you what you need. But I can't remember where it is. Maybe under managed countries, and you hover over the colony icon, or something like that.

if you hover over the bar it tells you whats adding or subtracting, tried a few more things last/night today.

But giving up until there's some play throughs or something to tell me how to do it, also appears to have broken most mods, so will wait for some of them to get updated as well.

Anyone still playing this?

There's a few of us starting a MP game this weekend Saturday early evening if anyone fances joining us. We have a steam group sorted and will be using Teamspeak split up into allies/axis.

Would be great if we can get more people joining us. New players welcome as we are all newish to multiplayer on hoi anyway.

Jumped back on it, made it to 1948 before the slowdown made it unplayable again.

Anyone know a fix to make it use more than one cpu core? Googled it to death but cant find anything. Wouldn't have bothered trying to do well if I'd known theres no point waiting around forever for the game to tick over the hours.

Hmm I used to experience the slow down, but that was pre-Oak. Is it caused by unit spam? Sometimes there are so many divisions on screen at once and I bet its a complex beast. I must admit, the game has been running really well for me of late, and it's a LOT better than it used to be too.

Yeah from a bit of googling its because the AI will create thousands of individual armies with one unit in each, plus it only runs on one core which explains a lot.

I am looking for a "good" tutorial and as there are sooooo many to choose from on Youtube, I wanted to ask here
if anybody could point the way to a good link(s) please..

TY

I think there might be a couple of oldies on the HOI4 forum if you're a member. How are you getting on with it now? If you need help with anything specific let me know, I've been sticking the hours in to that and EU IV.

Massively late to the party with this title, but just started playing it and its incredible addictive.

I would caveat that though with the fact that if you have never played a HOI game then you would be faced with a steep learning curve. And I mean steep. It took me hours of watching youtube videos to understand just the basics of what you had to do and even then I only really know the basics and still haven't got into a war yet! Been playing as the USA so its a late contributor to the war anyway but it can be unfathomable. Can't wait to get to starting a war and moving my troops around into various battles.

Having been addicted to PUBG for three years, I now load up HOI4 and before I know it have sunk 3-4 hours into it! Great game and have got a fair few of the expansions too (inc Man the Guns and the Resistance one).

Worth a Buy on youtube was spot on with his review, if you really like deep WW2 strategy games then this game is amazing, but be prepared for a steep learning curve and massively head-scratching moments of confusion.

Glad you’re enjoying it is definitely worth the investment. I would say if you can buy the other dlc as overall they add a lot of flavour and immersion to the game plus there are a few mechanics only available with them installed.

I’m running the latest beta 1.9.2 and the game has become more of a challenge in many departments which is a good thing. The ai which is always problematic has also been ramped up so you will find an average game more rewarding. I’ve sunk thousands of hours into this and still haven’t touched ahistorical, I try and follow the historical line as closely as possible.

If you need any questions asked fire away..

HOI4 has nothing to do with HOI3 or earlier. The previous games were more on commanding the armies than organizing the whole country.
For anyone who played previous HOI the 4th iteration was a brand new game and we all got lost :P

I've just been concentrating on the domestic stuff first, before moving onto the fighting and the fun stuff!

I've enjoyed it so much I've bought the rest (apart from the soundtrack stuff) - I usually mute the music and have few games sounds and listen to spotify/radio instead whilst I play.

Everytime I play I have questions! Often I have to just pause the game and look on Google as to why I couldn't do something!!

Because I've only just got the hang of building, researching, diplomacy, the trees, unit and ship upgrades/design, I've not actually been in a war yet! So unit grouping, movement and organisation I don't really have a handle on yet, same with air units. That's my next goal. Same with understanding my Navy, moving them around and and fighting.

Fair enough! I haven't played any previous HOI game, so that was a guess on my part!
