**** The Official LG V30 Thread ****

Cant see that price on the CPWH site. Although for that price i think i wont buy straight away. Wait to see what the pixel has to offer at a lower price (hopefully). Still tempted to pick up a G6

Ouch, I would agree that LG sets usually drop in price relatively quickly but that's when it's available from a lot of retailers. Can't see Carphonewarehouse dropping the handset by much, £50 or so in a couple of months.

Let's see what the pixel has to offer at that price point. November 1st though. Annoying that they announce it so early before it's release.

So the Verge has just ripped the P-OLED of this phone a new one. Apparently it's incredibly bad and banding/blotching of colours are appearing.

This is actually quite interesting as I've experienced something similar to on my LG Watch Sport that also has a P-OLED screen. There are times solid colours on the screen look very noisy and I always thought it didn't look correct, but being my first and only Android Wear device I didn't know if it was supposed to be like that or not. I'll try and get some pictures.

Yep, as I said in the pixel 2 thread the P-OLEDS are rubbish. Can't understand why everyone is raving about them. Put it next to an s8 and you'll see a massive difference.

I'd say chill. Probably some production issues/bad batch. Erica Griffin has her retail unit and didn't mention anything like the problems mentioned above and her pre production unit was also very good. She is very particular when it comes to screen quality.

Does anyone have one of these in hand to play with?

Thinking of picking one up tomorrow (work paying, so not concerned re depreciation...!).

Cheers,

Su

I'm tempted by one of these too, my contract is currently up with O2.

I think the potential screen issues are going to be a deal breaker for me though. I use my phone a lot in low light/total darkness and a patchy screen would do my head in.

I work for part of the Carphone group so get 30% off contracts and having seen this phone in action could see just how good it is. After nearly 2 weeks with it I've got to say that the screen is fantastic, very responsive and with vibrant colours, side by side with a Galaxy 8 it's hard to see much difference between the two. I've not had any opportunity to try out the camera so can't comment on that but the real winner to me is the audio quality with headphones, absolutely top quality with the supplied B&O ear buds.

I hope this proves to be the case with the Pixel 2 XL. A lot of hysteria about that at the moment, which is a shame as otherwise it'd be out there as my number 1 choice.

I purchased a V30 through Mobiles.co.uk with the £15 discount for £145 upfront and a 24 month contract of 5gb data at £27.99 per month.
That is a total of £756.76 over 24 months which I felt was a bit of a bargin for a top of the range smartphone.

I can genuinely say that the rumors about the screen are not true on my model. The screen to me feels on par with the S8, with colours over-saturated in a typical AMOLED way. There is no evidence of grey screen at a tilt and I have seen zero burn in. I would say that colours do air on the blue side, but I actually feel this is more a signature of previous phones I have had with LG rather than the red side which is typical Samsung and I personally prefer it.

The sides of the screen are responsive to touch, although regarding touch, I have noticed that the finger print reader has had some reading my finger prints when setting up, I added a couple for both my index fingers and it works first time 90% of the time, but it does make me wonder if my units reader might have a fault as it is no way as easy as the Pixel.

The camera is great, I am still getting used to it, but it definitely has a really nice interface and in regards to the rest of the phones interface, well the settings menu is easy to use and I just used NOVA for the rest. In terms of speed the phone itself is fast and smooth with battery life lasting just over a full days hard usage at present, so more than adequate for commuting and day trips.

The DAC is sweet and the real reason I bought the phone and whilst I don't have super high end monitors yet; just using my Shure 215's I can hear a big difference in audio clarity.
Regarding audio the phones speaker is definitely its weakest point, but my ring tone and notifications sound crisp and the odd video I show to my friends is loud and enough quality that I don't notice. It is definitely not a phone for consuming media on without headphones though.

So do not be discouraged by the rumours. You can get a top of the range smart phone which is better than both the Samsung and iPhone for far less than either.
