BMW and M Power Owners

Hold on. We're now saying coasting in neutral use less fuel than coasting in gear?....

Is that same as when I come to a stop and my ED display tells me I'm getting 100+ miles to the gallon?....

Pretty sure that's not what he's saying at all.

Post 2013 automatic BMW's will shift into neutral and coast when in Eco-pro mode and you lift off the throttle at over 25mph.

This is because they will coast far further than they'll go if you lift off the throttle in gear and the extra distance cancels out the benefit of the fuel cutoff when the car is in gear.

The only reason this was added is for fuel efficiency purposes and I'd imagine the BMW engineers know better than us.

Finally got new tyres on back today. MP4S in 275/35/19. 10mm wider sits much better on the wheel with square sidewalls.

Old tyres were a bit more worn than I thought so need to get alignment checked I think. Need a few days for tyres to scrub in as it was a bit nervous in the wet tonight.

You got any pics?
I have 265's on but will need some very soon as they are low on the inside of each tyre.
Negative camber and traffic light drag races being the most likely cause.

Yes mine was very low on the rear left !

Crap weather so took a quick pic

It isn't a bit expensive at all, it's actually very cheap for what it is - a 300bhp 2 year old M Sport 5 Series with a generous specification.

I almost bought one of these twice but bottled it on both occasions. It's essentially a 535i - it's not a Toyota Prius or some sort of economy car if that is what you are expecting. It will have the fuel costs you'd expect from a 3 litre turbo petrol 5 Series, not from an eco-friendly hybrid. This is probably why it wasn't very popular - for me this wasn't an issue as I saw it as an alternative to a 535i which was impossible to find, but to people who see the word 'Hybrid' it might be more of an issue.

The reason I didn't buy one in the end was I was worried about the battery system, nobody could advise me what happened when they needed replacement and the BMW extended warranty excludes 'batteries' but I couldnt get an answer as to whether Hybrid battery systems were exempt from that.

At the time I was looking there weer quite a few of these on the AUC site for months on end, they seemed very hard to shift therefore future residuals were a concern. It seems most sold eventually and there are now not many around for sale which might help a bit in that regard.

If you know what it really is and thats what appeals to you then for £24k it's an absolutely fantastic car. Just do your homework.

In the end I bought a 2015 530d instead.

I'm still on the hunt for a new car, I've had a lot of expenditure the last few months so it's put me behind schedule.
I'm going go look at this on the weekend, it's a bit expensive but is only a couple of years old.

Anything I should look out for or be aware of?
I thought about these but you can't put the back seats down to make a large loading area. Big no no for me.

Luckily I have access to another vehicle when I need to put bigger things in the car

I barely do any miles so a diesel wouldn't make sense for me unfortunately. I'd be too worried about the DPF breaking and being stuck with a large build.
My commute to work is at the moment 3 miles, I doubt the battery would last to the end of my drive, so I'm happy with the mid 20s MPG cost that I'll probably be receiving.

who drives 3 miles? jesus.. use a bicycle.

I do, mainly because I can't ride a bike :O

I walk during summer and car during winter.

in west london(assuming details are correct) to drive 3 miles will take 2x as long as cycling or using a train/bus.
In Hillingdon it'd take me longer to cycle (I think) than drive. I get to work within 12 minutes every day

Some local folks mentioned two other BMW specialists in the Portsmouth area. I already have an indy I use, though doesn't hurt to have more than one in the address book when one is fully booked when I'm available etc.

Phoned the first one up, asked if they do valve clearances for both inspections and total cost of each service. Seems too cheap, £175 for Inspection 1? And all in a single day?

Me: "How do you do the clearance checks?"
Them: "Oh we check them electronically, it's much quicker and cheaper for customers"

No wonder there are so many S54s out there with issues.

At least the 2nd place does them properly and often gets M cars in.

E-Tech Motorsport for those curious, I'll pop in one day to see what the place is like.

Cheers, don't look that much different than my 265 in the way they sit on the rim but because mine are marginal when it comes to scraping the wing, I think they may just be slightly too big..
