Destiny 2

Hilarious that a loot based game locks all the loot behind a store.
Bungie are a disgrace. Activision have always been terrible, but Bungie weren't happy until they flushed their name completely down the toilet.

The main issue however is that there is so much within the Eververse store that should have been rewards from simply playing the damn game. Where for example are the ghosts, ships, and sparrows that used to drop from raids? Oh thats right, money...

Agreed. I stopped playing Destiny when Bungie added transactions for dance animations. Something so simple that should have been free content tarnished the experience and set a dodgy precedence, and my interest just waned from there. From the sounds of D2, i'm glad I got out then.

Mrs and I restarted our Titans over the Christmas break and have hit the balmy heights of level 6. Every time we go to carry on leveling them we end up playing some D1 heroics instead. The loot reward is just as meaningless (in the sense that I have everything in d1 and loot in general is meaningless in D2 once you have a few specific weapons) but damn is a lot more fun. Pre reset it was small arms with void burn. Cue Voidlock with Nothing manacles and scatter grenades along with energy drain ..... so many grenades!!! Void primaries basically one hitting the majority of enemies and Dark Drinker is an absolute boss slayer.

Meanwhile in D2 I might be able to throw a grenade every 30 seconds or so with the right build and MAYBE use my super more than once in an entire strike.

Solar burn and Daybreak on this weeks NF in D1. That is to say Mayhem in strikes..

Meanwhile in D2 you get a grenade slightly faster on a story mission strike that you won't see if you don't have CoO...

That's a good start, bringing back what they took out from D1 :p

Exotic Repetition Reduction. This will prevent players from receiving the same Exotic twice in a row. You may still receive duplicates, just not consecutively.

This I'm glad of, had the Helm of Saint 14 about 5 times in a row from exotic engrams.

I am in two minds with the update.

On the one hand the improvements, albeit vague, sound good from the perspective of where the game is right now. I do have to question some of the timeframes though..

On the other hand why the **** are we seeing updates that seemingly just add back content that was already in D1 with little to no changes (if we take the Heroic strikes as an example we could see things introduced with LESS functionality), combined with QoL changes that should not have taken months to fix.

Unfortunately I little to no faith in Bungle actually delivering anymore. The opening part to the update really drives home this point:

Bungie Update said:
Eververse
We recognize that the scales are tipped too far towards Tess at the moment, and Eververse was never intended to be a substitute for end game content and rewards.

Bull ******* ****!

You only have to look at what is offered by the end game activities vs Eververse (specifically in comparison to D1) to see this is utter crap. Why are ships specific to characters we know, complete with detailed lore, locked behind Eververse and not rewards from specific activities (for example why on earth was Saint 14's ship not a reward from the sodding Saint 14 quest line?!)?

Why during the Dawning event and Osiris DLC were more items added to Eververse than into the gameplay loot pools? Oh that's right, the entire game was built in this way!

I said this would happen back when the emotes came out, but people defended it. It's just cosmetic they said. If it was free to play, fair enough. But a retail price title that requires people to buy expansions to fully enjoy the game (basically a subscription), it's total ********.

I did like in the massive Reddit thread that Cozmo (Bungie community manager for anyone who doesn't know) asked why would give people the itch to get back into D2 (I translate this as what do people want to see in the game). Someone responded with "Play D1 for an hour...". :D

That actually succinctly sums up my response as well. I wanted D2 to be an expansion of D1 not a complete re-booting*. I had no issue losing my weapons or even the light but what I don't understand is why they seemingly thought it would be a good idea to bin everything that came before as well (thinking locations, NPC development, character development etc). Think how cool D2 could be if we had the locations from D1 in addition to everything D2 added PLUS a gameplay loop somewhere between the two (closer to D1).

*I recently watched a Darkside Royalty Lore video and he made a very valid point. The lore changes in D2 (Saladin not recognizing us for example) only make sense if you consider D2 to be a complete reboot and not an expansion of the series. What we ended up with is some kind of hodge podge balanced completely on the wrong side (new game with random quips back to the first one instead of old game with complete re-fresh of content).

Just thought of another example which shows the Bungie statement I quoted above to be a load of crap. The raid shotgun has an ornament that can be received from the prestige raid, a bit meh as rewards go but ok. As part of Curse of Osiris another ornament was added. Does this come from the raid lair, lol nope, it is in the Eververse store. I mean seriously Bungie....

I don't think this was a great update post at all from Bungie.
At first it looks like a lot of changes are coming but most these changes are pencilled in as "fall 2018"
So by then the game will have been out for 15 months dev time , had 2 DLC packs and if all goes to plan it still wont be near D1.

IMO D2 should have been a massive expansion to D1 , i thought they moved to D2 because they had new tools / engine but it appears they have been whinging how crap their tools are.

Didn't ever verse only offer ships and podracers/emotes anyway? Not a big deal tbh (yeah it's mad that they're trying to grab more money!)

I'd like them to reduce grenade cool down etc and make the pvp more like destiny 1 (even if it was unbalanced and had OP builds/weapons)

Good to see 6v6 coming back to pvp

So looks like D2 isn't worth diving into yet?

I have no great desire to pour the kind of hours into D2 that I did D1, but would like to play through it at some point, sounds like it's a trainwreck still?
