GPU prices go boom

looks like all cryptos are down around 20% today, hopefully an extra 20-30% should bring gpu prices down a bit.
" Bitcoin's fall was part of a broader crypto-currency selloff. Every major cryptocurrency has suffered double-digit losses over the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. Ethereum is down 21 percent. Bitcoin Cash is down 25 percent. Litecoin is down 20 percent, while Dash is down 21 percent, and Monero is down 25 percent."

That 20% will be 40% up by a few days. Nature of the beast.

Hopefully whenever the new Nvidia cards are released, the mining software won't be perfectly optimised for the new architecture... Or is that just very, very wishful thinking?!

According to the internet today was the day the Crypto bubble burst though.....

I'm still of the impression that Volta will see a higher price than the current Pascal cards.

If the mining bubble did burst today, I got really lucky selling my Vega card yesterday!! :p

bloody hell some serious increase on my 1080ti if I sold now I'd probably not lose a penny due to inflation, mad! good for those who invested early

People need to stop buying at these prices. It's insanity whether you are are rich or not. If you are rich you are still getting ripped off and the joke is on you. I could still build a top end PC right now and have no pressure on my bank but i don't see the benefits of spending so much for something that is not that far ahead visual wise on what i got 6 years back.

So after refusing to mine all year on principle that it was damaging the gaming market i thought sod it everyone else is doing it so i might as well. Spent monday setting it up with my 1080ti which was easier than i thought only to find out the bubble could be about to burst the very next day lol serves me right for giving in :)

Does mining take a greater toll on a GPU than using it for gaming? I just wondered what sort of condition the glut of second hand GPU's are likely to be in if and when either everything collapses or a new series of more efficient cards are released?

I feel if i do not mine i will not afford volta. And wth is virtual coin doing here? It shows how dumb and irresponsible free market capitalism is. Using electric to waste and degrade gpus makes gpu makers happy miners happy and electric suppliers happy. Anything outside that loses i think.

The mao in me would ban all non official currency and cryptomining because it is just a scam bubble. I do not know if it is legal in China but i would have thought the CP would have banned it. Because at this rate everyone with a pc WILL mine and the energy use to create currency is unsustainable? Some night were gonna wake up at 3am put on a kettle and the national grid will overload and blackout due to the midnight miners lol.

I totally agree it is such a waste on electricity and raw materials. I wish there would be a ban after trying it for a few days i have decided to stop, im not sure if it was greed or just the feeling i was missing out that made me start but deep down i just don't agree with it.
