GPU prices go boom

Life is indeed a hard journey, i've made sure mine is successful through hard work and determination, anyone can succeed, some of the most successful come from the humblest backgrounds, perhaps the difference is they didn't spend hours on end each day moaning about what others had and instead made sure they got it for themselves.

Also i must be the devil reincarnated because i own multiple BTL properties.

Lets just hope the government catch up with all that share trading and BTL activity in the market, pyramid schemes are illegal in the UK after all.
You do find tho that many of those who drag themselves up initially through hard work, sadly then become completely ruthless in using their wealth to disadvantage others, in order to make more wealth.

In other words, once you're ahead, your focus changes to how you can ensure you always *stay* ahead, even if that means denying similar opportunities to others than those you yourself had. Eg the baby boomers benefiting from historically low prices and subsequent price inflation, now buying up all the property and becoming BTL landlords. Oh I see you're one of those as well. Quelle surprise.

It happens all too often. People who make money the hard way then want to use their money to make more money, the exploitative way. Because they can't be satisfied with what they have, and become obsessed with more at any cost.

Please tell me how miners are making money at the expense of others? They are buying the cards and paying the electricity bills.

And GPUs aren't a resource, they are a luxury item. Look at Steam. The vast majority of gamers use GPUs that miners wouldn't even consider.
There is no debate that mining has caused hyper inflated prices. There is no debate because there is nothing else that would account for the current situation.

You have caused/are continuing to cause the PC hardware market to become more and more and more exclusive.

It's quite literally "at the expense of others" because you've made things... more expensive. It's the most literal interpretation of that phrase :p

Well considering the future looks VERY VERY bleak (pensions will be worth nothing, savings are below inflation), what do you expect people to do with their money? AMD/Nvidia will find a way to solve the supply problem with all the money people are throwing their way.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

How can you blame solely mining? Put your phone down now! Yes that's right, other devices competing for fab time have caused this price increase, not solely mining as you claim.

In a world where so many people care nothing for "strangers" or the planet in general, it's not difficult to see why PoW mining has taken off. You're a fine example by your own admission.

So the fact that I don't really care if a gamer can buy a video card that he deems sensibly priced makes me some kind of bad person? Lets for a minute step into real and see what I really do in a world where so many people do nothing for strangers. I bought an eisewolf for vega and gave it away within a week to a fella on these very forums @Illuminist who later decided he wanted to give me a few quid towards it. I run a scheme were I give more hardware away in a month than most buy in a year to local under funded schools, free of charge, last month alone I donated 10 machines to a digital art class. Do I care about things that really matter? Yes absolutely. Do I care that a subset of gamers are angry about miners? Absolutely not, I am a gamer myself and if I need to get creative to buy the hardware that I want or need then so be it. If that means mining a little bit to offset the increase in price then I am all ears. If I want to buy a couple of cards to mess around with and it upsets somebody then to be frank that is their problem, not mine.

Perhaps we should all focus less on scrambling to the top of the pile and start thinking about how we got to this (bleak) point, and what we can do differently. To try to care about our environment, the wider community, etc. You're right tho, the future does look like some version of societal collapse is inevitable. Largely because we've allowed capitalistic thinking (greed) to trump and silence all other voices and concerns, to let the 1% accumulate beyond all reason and to get away with daylight robbery against the rest of us.

After all... if the pensions are empty, where did all the money go? It didn't evaporate.... Our economy keeps growing (albeit slowly). The money is still there, it just isn't in the pension pots...

The fact you conflate “capitalistic thinking” and greed is illuminating

On the flip side, none of that makes you a good person either. Some people give things away to appease their conscience, or to try. Without knowing how you made your money I can't know if you're a drug lord or not (unlikely, but you get my point).

Also I would be an absolute fool if I bought into the idea that a little philanthropy justifies the current rich/poor divide. The world wouldn't need philanthropy if the wealth and resources were more evenly distributed. Sorry, socialist leaning here.

Some buy gpus and game, some buy gpus and mine, some do both with gpus..
Lets not start hating on each other because of what people do with hardware.
There isnt a right/wrong here mining uses power so does gaming .

There's so many problems with capitalism, you've got mass cuts at Tesco/Sainsburys because they're operating to make shareholders more profit, yet Sainsburys and Tescos exist to supply plebs.
And yet here we are complaining that £2-400 luxury items now cost more. I’ll take capitalism’s problems any day.

When was the last time you gamed with 20+ GPUs? :p

You have to admit they tend to go hand in hand. Imperfect world and all that. Capitalism sure does nothing to disincentivise greed. Quite the opposite.
Enforcing equality of outcome has had some pretty dreadful results in comparison. Whilst the balance between capital and labour is tilted too far in favour of capital at the moment (in my opinion) I don’t buy that as an indictment on the whole system.

Anyone who thinks people buying GPUs to earn money is greedy are just wrong and bitter.

I guess anyone in any job spending to gain is greedy?!

Also people are going on about working hard, ethics, etc. Do you think the miners in here are sitting at home and only mining. I'd bet nearly everyone has a job, hard working and mining has a hobby.

Infact, a few miners I have spoken with in here are business owners. Go figure.
